I have this and put little toys, cinema pass and choc coins in.

Doitnicelyplease · 27/11/2012 06:52

We have two - one is a felt tree with pockets underneath, each day you get another 'decoration' for your tree so that by Christmas Day it is covered in little felt decorations

The other is a big wooden advent house from John Lewis which I fill with various Christmassy chocolates.

DD1 opens both but next year she will have to take turns with dd2 which should be interesting

AmazingBouncingFerretDude · 27/11/2012 07:20

I got the kids ones from work at Thorntons. I also iced their names on them.

I was going to ge tthe continental one for myself but we opened one at work and did it throughout November so there';s no point now! Grin

We have one with doors all around the outside, and a nativity scene in the middle, each day they get a new magnetic character for the scene, have to keep an eye on it so that the older ones don't swop their 'boring' stars and sheep for the cooler characters. Also need to try to remember who opens the first one.

Also have dd1 Hello Kitty, dd2 Mario, ds lightning mcqueen choc ones so they each open something every day.

Everythingwillbeok · 27/11/2012 07:27

My DD 14 has a tatty teddy one and my DD 7 has a moshi monster choc one and also a moshi monster one with the little figures in every day which was expensive but I've come to the conclusion after losing both my parents recently that life is too short to worry about the price of things and I know she will adore it Smile

wonkylegs · 27/11/2012 07:30

Today I'm finishing the one I'm making .... Fabric tree with decorations as pockets each with chocolate Santa, coin, snowman or penguin in.
Based on one I made as a kid that my mum still has.

PearlyWhites · 27/11/2012 07:34

Lego friends and Plymobil for the older two and peppa pig for my toddler. The baby is too small although I could have ate his chocolate Wink
Ragwort , why would you not buy your ds a Bart Simpson calendar if that's what he would prefer?

TheWoollybacksWife · 27/11/2012 07:49

I made one (I've put a picture on my profile to show off Grin) and will be putting chocolate coins and bobbles/clips in for DD2 (13) and a couple of Lego figures for DS (5)

DD1 (18) has a Malteasers one at Uni

flubba · 27/11/2012 08:22

Not as fancy as Woolly's but I also made ours last year - a pocket one to hang on the wall and we all sat down together to write out a list of Christmassy activities we could do as a family during advent - activities here if you're looking for inspiration and the pockets are big enough to hold chocolates or sweets every now and then (usually at the weekend 'cos I'm mean like that :o)

Pocket advent calendar

Too many, OP. Too many. Hmm (But if your baby is just 11 months, why not just bite the bullet and get a calendar for yourself and admit you want one? Grin)

DS1 will have a playmobil one (Winter Forest, bought new off ebay in mid-summer, cheap), a flat picture one because I insist and the crappy unimaginative choc one his doting grandmother dropped off. Guess which one he gets most excited about? (actually, that could be the playmobil one, but he's very enthusiastic about having a bit of chocolate at breakfasttime.)

DS2 has a choc one and regretably, he will be keen on it despite his tender years. Pointless trying to stop toddlers from knowing about chocolate when they have an older sibling. Grin He also has a flat picture one which he won't remotely care about. I also have a flat piccy one. I did ask DH if he wanted one and I might yet get him a Traidcraft choc one, because he will feel 'left out' of the chocfest every morning. Hmm

I have started and never finished at least 3 fabric advent calendars in my time. Perhaps I'll give them to the DSs when they have children of their own....

wewereherefirst · 27/11/2012 10:29

DS1 has a lego one which he is really excited about. It's better than a chocolate one apparently Shock so I shall have the choclit instead

Redstockingswillstopsanta · 27/11/2012 10:36

We have the Thorntons ones with their names iced on,means no arguments on which belongs to who,and they were on offer 3 for 2 which is perfect .

nipersvest · 27/11/2012 10:39

we have a playmobil one which they share and take it in turns to open, plus they both have a choc one each.

ByTheWay1 · 27/11/2012 10:46

I made a fabric pocket one from a kit and will fill it with choc coins and quality street - 2 chocs in each so the girls get one each - and the 12th always has something special for my eldest - this year she is 12 on 12/12/12.

TheWoollybacksWife · 27/11/2012 11:00

The one I made was from a kit and only took a couple of hours a day over about 3 days but I'm a SAHM so had time to do it. The pockets are huge so may take a bit of filling Grin

I8toys · 27/11/2012 17:54

Advent calendars are my speciality. I love the countdown and Christmas Eve. Anticipation is everything!!

1 Liverpool FC and 1 Thomas chocolate advent calendar
2 Thorntons chocolate advent calendars
1 Lego
1 Moshi Moster
1 Playmobil Post Office
1 magnetic nativity star chart calendar
1 Phoenix Cards reindeer calendar
24 wrapped christmas books - open 1 each day

Old ones that come out every year:-
1 Phoenix Cards navtivity calendar
1 playmobil christmas in the park
Homemade treasure hunt calendar - they get a small gift/tickets to see Santa for eg each day but don't have stockings as all the tat goes into this.

I will have to get them up so early to open them all. Oh and I'm doing elf on the shelf too!!

MonsterBookOfTysons · 27/11/2012 18:11

A toy moshi monsters one and moshi choc one for ds
A zhu zhu pets toy one and a Peppa pig choc one for dd.
They also have free Disney store ones with just pictures.
I went a bit mad this year Blush :o

Badvocsanta · 27/11/2012 18:23

My 2 boys have a picture one to open from their godmother.
Then ds1 has an advent candle as he doesn't like chocolate.
Ds2 has one I made with felt pockets that i put nice chocolates in.
They also have a nativity scene and a colour in advent calendar too :)
