Presents for a 2 month old

We are starting to be asked by relatives what they should get for our baby girl for Christmas - she'll be 2 months old at that point.

We have been very lucky in that we've been lent/given a lot of second-hand stuff for her already such as clothes, bouncers, baby carriers etc and we were given even more clothes when she was born including a lot for when she gets to 3-6m. There isn't really anything practical she needs.

However, there are also only so many toys a 2 month old needs as well so, although a couple of jellycat toys would be lovely, it's not something we can suggest to everyone.

Any other ideas of what we could suggest when people ask what to get for her?

Books! She will always grow into them.cant have too many books.

Also you could ask for 6-12 months clothes? They grow very fast at that age.

Carseat and pushchair toys, that will attach to stop them getting lost. Cloth and board books. Book collections/sets for the future to read to her. Looking to the weaning stage, a set with cup/bowl/plate/cutlery. Teething toys. Or posh baby toiletries with a bath toy.

DD won't be having a birthday for many months so make the most of practical gifts that will be grown into.

My nephew will be three months at Christmas, so I have bought toys for later on in his development aimed at 6-12 months, so it may be worth asking for something like that?

All about things you need rather than want at that age. Ask for baby bath/shampoo/bubble bath, organic stuff that you can get in gift sets. Clothes in 6-9, 9-12, 12-18. Toothbrush&paste. Books! A teether, a special rattle. Even weaning bowls/spoons.

How about a swing with a baby seat for the garden. From 4-5 months most babies love sitting in a swing.

We have a timber activity cube with a bead frame on top ( that we weighed down with a couple of Argos books) that 3 children have loved using to start pulling themselves up with. You can also play with it when sitting. Think we got it from Toys R Us

Toys with balls spinning or popping in/out are popular when they start sitting.

Also toys that have the suction cup to attach them to the highchair or table in front of the highchair.

Baby touch books, and lamaze toys are appreciated by little tinies.

Stacking cups. Best. Toy. Ever!
Can be used for everything - hiding things/knocking them down/in the bath/in the sandpit/obstacle course for teddies/tea parties and on, and on and on...

A friend bought them for our baby when he was born and I was a bit Confused. He's now 3 and I totally get it! He still plays with them!

I agree with a poster above, books. DS was 10m at his first Christmas & we got him a couple of special timeless books & wrote inside the cover to commemorate his 1st Christmas.

Yup, books. Ask people to get ones that their toddlers/children enjoyed most.

I would go with things that she will grow into for the following year - the next stage up carseat, high chair, bigger bath seat. Or contributions towards them if they are more than family would normally spend obviously. We had the same dilemma last year actually so MIL bought DS the curtains, lampshade and duvet set we wanted for the nursery. DS just turned one and is now using the duvet but it's great in that it was one less thing for us to buy.
And my mum bought a cute night light and a large picture frame for us to put in his room. I have just made the collage and it's really lovely!

I have made a Christmas list for ds on what to give - it includes toys and books I'd like him to have over the next year (he will also be 2 months at Xmas)
Most stuff is 6 months+ as we seem to have got loads of little stuff
My fab thing is a paddling pool and ball pool balls!

I'd say stuff like a walker, cups, books and older stuff. DD loved her baby walker with wheels from about 6-12months so if you have room that might be an idea!
I think if you have space definitely go for the 9m toys as with no birthday until 10m if you're like me you'll end up buying stuff yourself that you could have had as presents....

anything you need for her room?
my inlaws got DD a travel cot for christmas when she was 3 months. very useful, otherwise we couldnt have gone to visit DPs granny a few days later.
gift cards. if they're not sure (my uncle, life long bachelor never is) so you can choose yourself

Ooh how about the promise of free babysitting when you're ready to go out and leave baby for an evening?! Grin

I was going to say books as well, pref from the book people, they have amazing sets for £10, plus there is usually a free delivery code and or 10% code floating about.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. We have asked most people to give her books so we can start a library for her (great idea!) but need something a bit bigger for grandparents to get her. We have just been offered a secondhand walker from DH's cousin and our neighbours have also been very generous in gifting us things for when she grows a bit bigger. Any other toys for 6m-9m that she might need/like?

We were in a similar situation for DD's first birthday with more clothes and toys than she'd ever need we were stuck when the GP's wanted to get her a large gift! In the end I decided on 'theme' for her bedroom and told her GP's they could chose some things from that range so now she has a lovely coordinated bedroom that I probably never would have bothered with but it is lovely!

But that is cos we had LOADS of toys from DS, if you don't already have all the guff from an elder child then go practical to save yourselves the ££ down the track... GroBags in larger sizes / togs... sleepsuits in all different sizes... a jumperoo i'l- sell you ours for a bargain--... vtech walker... leapfrog music table

Maybe some lovely wooden toys? Eg pull along animal, rainbow stacking circles/rings, a Noahs ark, one of those things with wooden beads on wires? Wooden stacking blocks maybe...
