What on earth can I get? £5 limit to get a 'special' present for a work colleague who I havent even spoken to except to say hello when passing in the corridor. chocolates and wine are banned and my only idea would be a nice candle but would that be a bit naff?

Big cath kidston mug from Waitrose: £5 on the nose.

EldonAve · 13/11/2012 15:34

a mug?

LadyMaryChristmas · 13/11/2012 15:34

Yup. Go to the pound shop, and buy 5 things that are useful. Or 5 lottery tickets maybe?

BlueChampagne · 13/11/2012 15:52

One of those kits for growing bulbs in a pot? Amaryllis are usually about a fiver.

tassisssss · 13/11/2012 15:54

an advent candle and a candle holder

scented candle not naff at all unless you know she'd hate it

(I hate getting mugs unless I've chosen the mug as I have mug issues)

Clickityclack · 13/11/2012 16:15

tass Your not the only with mug issues

Everyone loves a candle though don't they? Which is why everyone buys candles and why I think it would be naff.

But lady I like your thinking Im going on a trip to pound land I think although not getting lottery tickets i'd be a bit miffed it they won

Thinks I have received in the Secret santa that have been good:

Four cans of Boddingtons, wrapped up.
A Lush bath bomb
A picture frame
Lottery tickets
A little games compendium
A dvd of Little Britain.

Is it a man or a woman?

Binfullofgibletsonthe26th · 13/11/2012 16:21

Things even! :S

Clickityclack · 13/11/2012 16:46

A lady who I think has just had her 40th if that makes any difference....

USB memory stick? I was given one as a Secret Santa once, not exciting but bloody useful.

sunnyday123 · 13/11/2012 20:59

What about this

HenriettaChicken · 13/11/2012 21:48

That looks fun, Sunny!

AdriftAndOutOfStardust · 13/11/2012 22:02

No everyone really does not love a candle. I can't stand being given candles, nor soap/smellies of any kind.

Do you have a branch of Wilkinsons near you? The sell £5 versions of all sorts of things which would be £10 or more in M&S - obviously the quality is lower but they are still OK. Woolworths used to be great for this too, obviously they are gone but most towns have an equivalent woolies-replacement by now.

It's my go-to-place for our annual £5 secret santa - I have got things like:
A set of cheese knives
Cookie tin & cookie cutters
A one-cup-teapot&matching cup set
A gardenning tool set
various funny items/games

InkleWinkle · 13/11/2012 22:06

I wouldn't like a candle but I would like a little photo frame.

M&s do scarves in about 10 different colours in the men's (but inc colours like red, yellow etc) for £5. I've given these in the past

PixieHot · 14/11/2012 07:12

ahji bhaji spice pack + 2 onions + gram flour = make your own onion bhajis kit.

Clickityclack · 18/11/2012 20:13

sunny I love that might have to get it for myself.
I've found a grow your own Christmas tree kit which I think I'm going to go with. You've all come up with brilliant ideas though thank you Thanks
