JD Bug scooter - which one for my 5 year old?

I am planning to get ds a big boys scooter for Christmas - he will be 5 in March and is tall for his age. But I'm not quite sure which would be the best JD Bug scooter to buy - I don't want one that is too big for him but equally I would like one that is going to last for a few years! Any advice or tips for the best one would be appreciated!

Does it have to be a jd bug? My 7 year old has a slamm scooter he got it at 5 and it was small enough and still going strong despite being chucked all over!

Isn't the Slam very very expensive? Also, quite small wheels?
I'd want one that could comfortably be ridden to school & back daily, which means bigger rather than smaller wheels. (Smaller wheels better for stunts).
Genuine questions, I am looking at JD Bug or RAZR for DS (8). I only want to spend max. £35, though.

Not sure you'd get a jd bug for that much but could be wrong I got ds2 a jd bug for xmas from toys r is that was £50 reduced from £100 a month or so ago. Slamm ones are £70ish and they can't be folded were you wanting one that collapses?

JD bug for £35. Probably not top notch quality, admittedly.

I'm off to Ebay to look at 2nd hand micro scooters, we once got one for £12!

Hmm, I think I want one that is stunt-ish - in design at least! - while still being suitable for his age. wishiwasonholiday - which jd bug did you get and how old is your ds2? I will have a look at the slamm ones too - don't mind either way re: folding one.

Slamm one looks good and £55 so not out of the question. Thanks for the tip - I hadn't heard of those ones.

This is going to sound ridiculous but ds2 is 3! But he rides the 7 year olds fine and his cheaper one is rubbish so thought that seemed a bargain but that will last. His Is a solid one and we've only replaced the wheels once in 2 years, the wheels aren't too small on his slamm one.

Looking at the slamm junior tantrum as they seem ok for ages 4-7 - but of course can only find it in a purple colour way! Obviously quite popular in the slime green!

We got the JDBug T bar for dd1 last year, dd2 who is 5 1/2 can ride it, it doesn't collapse but is v. sturdy for the school run, which is over uneven ground. Dd2 wants one now, but we are going to try to make her wait as she is v small for her age and still finds it hard to look after it all the way to school and back.

Ones that fold are no good for stunts and your son will may try soon. (My 6 year old started about 6 months ago when he was 5.5)
JD bug are good quality but in my experience they are not considered cool so he'll want a different brand in a couple of years.
