Gears Gears Gears - is this is good present (DC 3 & 5)

Has anyone got this Gears set, and what do you think? Here

Kids haven't asked for it, but they love duplo and generally interested in 'construction'. Will they be able to build working stuff with it (by themselves)? Will it hold their interest?

We have that from last Xmas, it's quite good and the DCs (especially DS who is now 3) gets it out quite a lot. I think it could be seen as a bit boring, because at the end of the day it is just cogs!

I also got them the fairground one (they were both going very cheap) but I actually regret that one as the fairgroundy bits are a bit tacky and very long winded to put together. I wish I'd just stuck with the super set you linked to TBH!
