I want to buy my brother and his 2 young boys a board game for Xmas - any tips gratefully received!

Snakes and Ladders. Smile

this is really lovely. It is pricey, but it comes with lovely wooden fruit and little shucker baskets. My 4&6 year olds love it as do all visiting children who play it. The nice thing for children of this age is that you work together to win against the 'crow' so there is no tantruming or sulking!

Wicker baskets!

Have a look at Orchard Toys stuff which is usually for ages 3-7 or thereabouts. My guys all love Tummy Ache and the Shopping Basket game (and my oldest is now 9!)

Pictureka is great fun.

Rapidough also good fun. Like Pictionary, but you make shapes out of play dough.

Children's charades, each card has 3 different suggestions on it eg for non-reader, child, older child- so easy for different ages to play. It's not a board game tho'

Post the Most is much loved so is Shopping Basket-both Orchard toys. The boys are 3:.8 and 6.1.

Hey thats my fish, or Dobble - we've enjoyed playing them as adults, and the rules are vvv simple for the children

My first monopoly and lego shave a sheep have been popular with ds who has just turned 7 for a couple of years.

My 6 and 3.5 love tumbling monkeys and play it together ....not exactly a board game ....

Roseformeplease · 05/11/2012 21:02

My children loved Junior Monopoly which is brilliant as the games only last about 20 minutes!

FayKnights · 05/11/2012 21:04

I bought this the other day and my 5, 6 and 12 year old all enjoyed it as well as various grown ups who have Been roped to join in.

Guess Who
Shopping List
Tummy Ache
Wild World Lotto
Greedy Gorillas
Snakes and Ladders
Snails Pace Race

Just about any sort of bingo / lotto game too

Lego games a big hit here... magma monster, pirate plank etc.

Another popular one is cranium junior, though younger one needs help reading etc.

The football table game (I call it fuzball) with the spinney men & a ball - not quite board game, but no adult help needed.
