Also has anyone bought an aqua doodle mat? worth buying? thinking of buying my 2 yr old one but unsure if there any good, she loves drawing..

ninjanurse · 24/10/2012 23:03

Have just bought for my DD and DSD some Monster High create a monster kits, half price from amazon here £18 down to £9

olibeansmummy · 24/10/2012 23:06

sarae ds has loved his from aged 1 to 3.4 so far :) he has the rainbow one. He also loves the mini mats with pictures underneath.

PfftTheMagicDraco · 24/10/2012 23:15

I thought the AquaDoodle would be very gimmicky, but DD has loved it. We've had loads of play out of it, and no mess.

LauraPashley · 24/10/2012 23:36

So much out of stock in sainsburys grrrrrr! Might have venture in-store just in case..

Wanted to ask, is anyone buying any non-toy or non-book pressies for their dcs? Or anyone else's? I have a ton of kids to buy for, budget quite small, just wondering if I could be thinking outside the box a little?!

Sarae2201 · 24/10/2012 23:40

Thanks for your advice i'm liking the sound of it think i'll be buying dd one for christmas Smile

busyprocrastinating · 25/10/2012 00:01

Sarae I'm going to be different here but I think the aqua doodle was a waste of money. Dd got it last Christmas when she was 14 months and she played with a bit then but she is really not interested in it at all now and prefers some paper and pencils. I'd heard loads of good reports about it but was disappointed.
Laura I'm buying my nieces and nephews cinema tickets and treats like popcorn. They have so many toys it seems silly to buy more. Last year I bought them all tickets to the zoo.

oreocrumbs · 25/10/2012 00:03

Laura, I'm buying toys, clothes and books.

Have you thought about making up sets for them. You could make these and add a small baking set from the pound shop. That would be a nice gift.

There are also a few nice home made gift on some other threads on here, like candy cane play doh and snowman in a jar. All will come in at only a few pounds. If any of them are of interest I'll have a search for them tomorrow for you and link.

Sarae2201 · 25/10/2012 00:47

busyprocrastinating thanks, i'm going to give it a go as I have dd's birthday and christmas in the same week so i'm on the lookout for 2 lots of different presents. She is also obsessed with drawing so hoping she will like it.. If all fails then guess ill have to put it on ebay!! Thanks for your advice Smile

Oh thanks all! Great ideas! I LOVE that brownie jar idea, now wondering what else could be done like that!

WineGless · 25/10/2012 07:06

If you are on Pinterest there are loads if fantastic ideas. Have a look at some of the boards linked on this thread here

3bunnies · 25/10/2012 07:13

LauraPashley we gave teachers some cookie mix in a jar (found a recipe for some called sunshine cookies with M+Ms and skittles in). They really liked it, but found with those it was good to give a few biscuits to wet their appetites. Lots of them said that they had made them up in the holidays with their children.

The only hitch I found with the jars is that if your jar is a different size it may mean that you end up recommending adding half an egg (as you want the jar full so it doesn't mix so much, oh and the jars ideally need to be kept upright). In the end I ammended the recipe to eliminate eggs, so equal quantities of flour, sugar, oats, sweets and fat to be added later. If you use half brown + half white sugar it looks more interesting. Skittles are reduced in sainsburys at the moment.

reastie · 25/10/2012 08:10

That's really annoying re: L'occitaine only letting you use one code. A couple of months ago I put an order in and used 2 codes - one for free shower gel and one for a free gift bag and it accepted both so I got 2 free gifts Hmm (and this was an order for sale stuff too) . Maybe they've tightened things up.
