christmas appeals for uk children?

I'd like to give to a UK children's charity this year as poverty has increased with this endless recession. Anyone know of any appeals?

The ones I know haven't started yet, but the loacal radio stations run an appeal and you donate toys at various places in the area, like supermarkets, the civic centre, really easy to get to places.

It would be worth having a look on their websites to see if there is anything on there.

We have an Action for Children Christmas tree in our local shopping centre which has envelopes with a name and age on it (i.e Ben aged 4 years) and a gift tag inside it.

You pick an envelope and buy and wrap a gift for the child before attaching the gift tag which has a social worker reference number on it and hand it to a member if security staff who collect it and pass it back to that child on Christmas eve :)

Not sure if this is done everywhere though but ours usually set up at the end if November.

Failing this ITV This Morning, local radio stations and newspapers run campaigns most years.

they are a fantastic charity.

The Salvation Army Christmas Appeal isn't specific to children but it does help a lot of families.
