water sterilisation tablets
anti-bac hand gel stuff (am in the anti anti-bac brigade personally, but think this stuff is great for when you can't get to soap and water)

MySecretSelf · 20/09/2012 13:39

Do they have ipods or kindles? An itunes or amazon voucher to stock up on music/books to listen to while travelling?

Nice travel wallet to store their documents, passports etc?

shinybaubles · 20/09/2012 13:43

Oh yes they have those gadgets and more - thankyou for all these tips.

Will they be travelling around the country? A good guide book might come in handy.

girlywhirly · 20/09/2012 16:38

Microfibre travellers towels. Developed for hikers, they are very absorbent, easy to wash, very quick to dry, and fold up very small and light. Miles better than beach towels. Look for them in outdoor sports shops and TK maxx. They might even fit in a stocking!

xmasevebundle · 20/09/2012 18:09

Baby wipes! Some thick socks(if they are going camping etc)

Go outdoors is a great site(sorry i cant do a link, on my phone)

shinybaubles · 21/09/2012 09:17

Wow thanks everyone will certainly be getting most of these things for them. Just going to write them down and make a list. Brillitant.

Mosquito plug in, jungle formula insect repellent, bite relief cream, suncream, travel pillows (there are a soft type you can get which are better than the blow up kind), a print out from trip advisor of places to eat where they are going, a voucher for a photobook from snapfish/photobox etc.
