Outside lights

For the last few years I have been hankering after some outside Christmas lights, but when I've had a look it all seems a bit complicated. I couldn't seem to find a set with everything I needed, just various sets which clearly were to add to other sets.

I am probably missing something obvious, and it doesn't help that I was accompanied by a toddler intent on grabbing everything glittery in sight.

Can anyone give me some advice / link to good sets? I am looking for white lights, just to go along the downstairs guttering, so about 10-12m.

I just went to Tesco...and got a long string of outdoor lights...I wasn't very organised so I plugged them into an extension lead which I then ran through the gap under the front door! It worked though....the extension lead was designed for outdoor use.

Or you could get solar...so you don't need a plug...like these here

Tesco? That's probably where I went wrong, I went to garden centres, so was probably looking at things for the serious enthusiast rather than a hopeful amateur!

I don't think solar would be any good at Christmas, the solar lights I had in the back garden barely glowed in mid-summer, so I think mains ones are the way forward.

I just want a plug in and go set, so I will have a look at Tesco, thanks. I wonder if they have them now or if it is too early?

No solar probably wouldn;t be great would it? Tesco have some Christmas stuff out now I have heard and their lights go fast. I would have a look and keep looking if they aren't there...also, if you have a B&M Bargains or a Wilkinsons, check them out...B&Q are good too.

Just had a look at Tesco online and they don't have anything yet. Still just summer solar fairy lights etc.

We have both B&M Bargains and Wilkinsons relatively nearby, so I think I had better just keep going and looking at all three and hope I catch them. I think they must go quickly everywhere, hence by the time I've looked before it has all been about extender sets rather than the basic ones.

Thanks, NC.

John Lewis had battery operated white twinkling lights for out door use last year. They operate on a timer and the battery lasts forever as they were led. They were £20 a set but are brilliant as they can be used anywhere and I will be bringing them out again this year.Grin

Oh they sound good, I have several places I could use those. Will investigate those too this year, thanks change.
