At what age did your DC understand about Christmas?

I read a nice thread the other day about Christmas books for DC (having them out from 1st Dec). My DD is just turned 2 - she sort of understood what her birthday party was about & presents etc; would Christmas be something she could understand too? Obviously not the religious meaning so much, more the spirit of it, Santa etc.
Are there any books about Christmas aimed at toddlers?

My DS has a December birthday. The year he was 2 he didn't quite get it. He enjoyed all the fun things and his grandparents taking him out ,and having them to stay.
When he was 3 he was much more aware (and it was discussed at his nursery). I had DD who was 6 months.

We have him on video (DD in her little Baby Gro Bag rolling around with the Santa Letter) coming down to the tree and the presents.
Instead of excitement at the piles of brightly coloured gifts, he stood and declared:
"What a mess! What a mess!"

(I'm guessing someone at nursery said this is toys were left lying about)

Can't think of any books that we read, but I'm sure we did.
But my DC loved "The Tweenies Panto" and "Barney Christmas Star " "Barney's Night Before Christmas". Blush

He's 13 yo this December so we show him the video (transfered onto the PC) to show him just how cute he used to be and to embaress him greatly Grin
