Want to suggest it for my family (limited budget due to redundancy etc)

You don't need even numbers, you set a budget of what the gift will be.

Write everyone's name on a piece of paper, and every person picks one name out of the hat. You buy a gift for the person who's name you draw.

That way everyone gets one gift.

Some people do it by setting a small amount for financial reasons. Others set a larger amount to improve the quality of gifts people recieve. As an example if you would all roughly spend £10 on each adult, and buy for 5 or 6 people, if you do it the secret santa way and set a budget of £50, each adult only gets one gift of a higher value, so maybe a £50 handbag as opposed to 5 £10 smelly sets from boots.

You can also apply fun rules or themes to the gifts that have to be abided by, for example at work we do a £5 secret santa but the gifts must be funny. So no easy cop out of a £5 gift set, you have to put thought into it, and tailor it to the recepient.

The idea of the 'secret' bit is that you don't say who bought what gift. So come christmas they are all under the tree just addressed to X love from santa. You don't have to do that bit, but the idea is not saying that one persons gift is only from one other. Everyone's gift is from everyone else, aka santa.

Hope that makes sense Confused it did in my head!
