when will you make your christmas cakes??
i like to feed mine a fair bit, but im not too sure how far to make them

I usually do mine after the school hols in October

I have just put my fruit to soak. I make mine backward. soak fruit, then bake in Nov and feed.

oh blame that sounds like a good idea.

its v nice, it means its less alcoholic and very moist.

I made my first Delia Smith christmas fruit cake last year
I dont like fruit cake-I made it for my ex-husband who loves it!! Ill be making 2 this year. One for ex-husband from the kids with a lot more Famous Grouse in it<img loading="lazy" class="inline-flex mumsnet-emoji" alt="Grin" src="https://www.mumsnet.com/build/assets/grin-D7Eg_B6y.png"> & one for my mum as a stocking filler with lots of sherry in it instead of whiskey!<img loading="lazy" class="inline-flex mumsnet-emoji" alt="Grin" src="https://www.mumsnet.com/build/assets/grin-D7Eg_B6y.png"><img loading="lazy" class="inline-flex mumsnet-emoji" alt="Grin" src="https://www.mumsnet.com/build/assets/grin-D7Eg_B6y.png"> Last year I made it in the October Half Term & Ill be doing both in the same break this year!

October for me, its easy but getting all the ingredients is the biggest hassle. I also use the delia method but change it a bit by taking out candid peel and currants. Also tweeking it with more nuts etc.

I've given up with the soaking fruit method - I did 3 last year and all very too soggy.
