DS1 will be 5 three weeks after Christmas, so I am looking for Christmas and birthday ideas please. All price ranges, as my parents spend loads on him, but he gets smaller gifts too.

I have already noted that lego might be a good choice, but other suggestions very welcome!

Bruder vehicles are great very sturdy and fun, farms and animals, meccano is good too, books, or trains.

Don't go over bored though in my experience less is more, I would stick to one idea and build a collection of pieces.

YY to lego. Also geomag, imaginext stuff, playmobil, orchard toy games.

OvO · 02/09/2012 23:28

Scottish just listed everything I was going to post!

My DS3 is 5 a few weeks before Christmas. (aren't they so adorable at this age?!)

He's really into the dreaded play-doh and moonsand so I've got him some of that. Paints too even though I'd rather keep them locked away! Grin

Other stuff on his (never ending!) list are a remote control tarantula, battleship, light saber and a new baby. Thankfully the new baby is really a doll!

Oh and nerf guns. Biiiig hit.

Maxi micro scooters are good fun

louiespence · 03/09/2012 18:46

Or a Mobigo

Def lego, the 3 in 1 kits are great.

Really depends what hes like. My DS loves anything arts n crafts, Tesco do reasonable priced little kits that aren't messy that I get as stocking fillers.

I always get puzzle books and new felt tips/paints every yr.
As well as a jigsaw or puzzleballs. New books. New character pjs.

But can't really say on bigger stuff, its quite individual.

HappyAsEyeAm · 04/09/2012 20:11

Thanks all.

Flojo - thanks for the suggestions. I think the lego 3 in 1 sets will be too intricate for him, so I will probably only buy some basic bricks sets and a board for now.

Louie - we have a scooter (which DS absolutely loves), so I am going to buy some accessories for that like a bell, light, strap on faces etc. He hasn't had anything electronic at all, so I ahve no idea what the diufferences are between the mobigo and leap pad etc. Can you advise me as a complete novice? I really don't know where to start, or what the differences between the consoles are. Disney means nothing to him, but he likes most cbeebies programmes.

Scottish and Ovo - Imaginext looks really good. We have the helicopter already, but there seems lots of potential. Meccano is too intricate for him I think, but maybe I should try it and let his skills develop.

Oh yes, he loves play doh and anything crayola, so they are must-haves for the stocking!

If you're going for lego bricks you might want to think about getting a box of wheels to complement it or something like this vehicle set. DS (he's 4) loves making an assortment of vehicles out of his basic lego. He's got the vehicle set and it has had loads of play value for him.

Mama1980 · 05/09/2012 18:16

Definitely Lego Grin also playmobil? Ds 4 loves his, the pirate ship is really good as are the explorer ones.

ScottishBritishMNer · 05/09/2012 18:16

Agree on the pirate ship - DS got one for his 4th birthday this year and he plays with it every day!

olibeansmummy · 05/09/2012 19:13

You might be surprised about the lego. Ds is 3.3 and managed to make a small Lego Mater the other day, by me pointing out the instruction to him, it was good to work together and encourage dialogue between us :) that said a nice big box of bricks makes a good stating point ( we inherited a ginormous box from my brother).

HappyAsEyeAm · 05/09/2012 19:43

Thanks for the Lego ideas - excellent suggestions.

We have some playmobil already - a pirate ship and aeroplane and some farm animals and a tractor. I will take a look at the explorer ones.
