Baby's first Christmas

My PBF is due in October and me and DP are trying to decide what to buy for her very first Christmas!

I was originally thinking about a playmat that I've seen, but I'm thinking it might be nice to get something she can keep. Maybe a bracelet?

So what did you all buy for your babies first Christmases?

Have to confess nothing but that's because he was 3 days old Grin

Think I would wait until PFB is born before you buy, my DCousin got 9, yes NINE, playmats given to her when her PFB arrived.

I didn't really get anything special for either. We did dress them up in Santa stuff though a couple of months before and send out Christmas cards with their photo on.

My ds was born boxing day so was basically a year at his first Christmas- much easier to buy for. He got toys mostly and a trike (was walking) to keep I made him a blanket in Christmas colours and stitched his name. I add to it each year so when he grows it does too.

I like the blanket idea! Maybe knitting a Xmas stocking would be nice? (I'm currently learning to knit Grin)

Our PFB will be 3 months old at Christmas, planning to buy him/her a jumparoo

CMOTDibbler · 25/08/2012 17:57

Buy a special christmas tree ornament, so then you have something to bring out and talk about year after year. DS loves to get all the special ones out and talk about when they were bought and the story behind them

Our baby will be two months at xmas. We are getting him/her some toys that h/h will need throughout the year, as its birthday wont come round again til nov.

I like the blanket idea too!

DD was 11 days old. She got a boori cot bed and a car seat Grin and a bauble for the tree!

We're planning to buy a 'treasure basket' - it should last a few years.

I love the Christmas ornament idea! Grin

We buy the Swarovski Christmas star ornament in the year our boys have been born. Nice keepsake. And they do annual angels as well if you prefer.

Engraved money box
Special blanket
Named stocking - not one of the personalised tat you can get-a nice one

Decide if you're having any traditions you'd like to follow too.

In our house, it's clean bedding, new pjs Christmas eve. Watch the snowman before getting fc plate of food ready. We write a letter to fc and get a reply (via nspcc website). Kids have their own little tree and secs in their room and fc leaves one gift under their tree for them, and we open our stockings on our bed before going downstairs. Dad makes us all a hot drink to drink (hot Choc) while opening the presents and he can pop the fire/lamps/christmas lights on downstairs too ready for the boys to go down and see what fc has left.

All a bit of a carry on but we love it, and so do the boys. And they're only young once so we try and make Xmas special as possible.

I've got dd (who will be 9 months) a "My First Christmas' rag book, which tells the Nativity story. I know she won't understand it yet, but still... And I'll be buying a lot of plastic tat too, I imagine, for her to ignore in favour of playing with her feet, my hair etc.

GnocchiNineDoors · 26/08/2012 15:39

DD was a week old. I bought her a red and white spotted wool blanket, which she was wrapped in throughout the whole festive period, and still uses at 8mo as a pram blanket in the cold.

My Dsis and DMIL both bought her an engraved silver bangle, so am glad I didnt go for that.

We also bought her some 'christmas eve' pjs of a checked red onezie (hehe, she looked like a cowboy in it) and read her a christmas bedtime story (pfb!!)

A copy of 'A Night Before Christmas'?

I second the Jumparoo, DD got this as an early Christmas present when she was about 3 months and it was a God send!! She loved it, really loved getting in it, and it gave me a few minutes respite Wink.

She was 4 months at her first Christmas and she got a bauble, stocking with her name on, the night before christmas book, new pjs, and a few small toys, like stacking cups, link looks - they were a hit, she played with them a lot when she was a baby, and some That's not my books. I think I probably got her loads some clothes as well. Oh and I got a cd of childrens songs to play in the car.
