Has anyone had one of these? Are they actually worth the money in Lego terms or do you just get a brick a day!

Dd has seen the Lego friends one advertised.

You get a small model to make each day so they're definitely "worth" it. I decided against it last yr cos I can't stand tiny bits of lego all over the place and I hate that if itbbreaks apart nobody remembers how to rebuild it so it doesn't get used any more!
And Dh thought DS would get bored of it, which is possibly right. And we weren't sure we wanted him getting a gift each day just from an advent calendar.

But that's not what you asked - you asked if they were worth the money and yes, I think they are very much worth the money in terms of what you get.

Oh and if you get one, it's worth thinking of buying it now if they're on offer anywhere.

OR buy a reusable advent thing like a string of 24 mini stockings and fill each one with your own gifts/sweets including some mini lego kits?

I got one in woolies one year for DH and ds loved it. Since then we've looked out for them but never found them again unless buying on line.

turkeyboots · 19/08/2012 10:10

We were given one as a gift last year, for a 4 and 2 year old. The Lego bits are tiny, smaller than regular Lego I think and I've still got all the bits hidden away somewhere.

Great for a 7 or 8 year old though.

Is her bday between now and xmas? Why not buy it as a bday gift then whether it is worth it or not is less important iyswim ?

Dolallytats · 19/08/2012 10:18

My son (4) had a Star Wars Lego Advent calendar last year and loved it. The Lego is normal size it just makes smaller models. The mini figures were particularly great in the calendar we got. It is expensive, but I'm thinking of getting one again this year because he loved it. We got ours on Amazon so it was a little cheaper.

Stinkyfeet · 19/08/2012 10:19

Yes, both ds's had one last year - 8 yr old had Star Wars, 5 yr old had City. They loved them - definitely worth the money.

belgo · 19/08/2012 10:20

They are great, and the same size as regular Lego.

You get a little set each day - eg. a figure of an adult or child or animal, or a toy car.

belgo · 19/08/2012 10:22

this is the contents of the Lego Friends calender.

It will probably be over priced because it is Lego Friends. The Lego City calenders are better value.

kate2boysandabump · 19/08/2012 10:23

We had the Star Wars one last year for the ds's to share (8 and 6). They loved it, it comes with small models and mini figures, santa Yoda was the favourite. We will get another one this year, they are worth the money and made the run up the Christmas a bit more special for the boys.

belgo · 19/08/2012 10:35

It's predicted to be 38deg today and here I am, on a Christmas thread!

merrymouse · 19/08/2012 10:38

They are worth it, but in terms of cost, it is like giving them another present, so it's definitely for those children who like lego and would enjoy the theme.

ANTagony · 19/08/2012 10:41

Shop around and you can get a new one but a previous years for under £20. The play mobile ones are really nice too.

merrymouse · 19/08/2012 10:42

@ SpanishFly - hmm, you've got me thinking - I could probably put together my own 'new' lego advent calendar using the lego that I find lying around the house between now and December - they won't suspect a thing!

ChiefOwl · 19/08/2012 18:24

Thank you. The content of the Lego friends one does look a bit rubbish i'm sure you get less for your money with the friends range.

Will have a rethink...

My ds got a lego city one last year, I got it online for about £13 if I remember rightly, and it was well worth it IMO but my DS is Lego Mad. Some days had a figure to build, over a period of I think 3 days he built a little building in 3 sections. Most days it was a complete thing though in each door if that makes sense. Smile

Not seen the lego friends one, so can't comment.
