DH and I have agreed to give each other stockings for the first time in several years (we did them when we first met, before DCs) so I'm just musing on what we could fill them with. Haven't set a budget but we will do (I went totally overboard on the DCs last year)

I can't really think of much other than socks/underwear, chocolate/sweets and toiletries... Any ideas? :)

oh also new pen, diary or notebook, phone covers, phone credit or I tunes voucher, lip balms, food bits and hats, gloves, scarves make good and practical stocking filler. I hate plastic tat!
sometimes kids get chocolate cereal from Santa in their stocking as a change from cheerios

I did promise to come back to this from my large list of ideas. The top few are things I?ve done (and our family does the same as FormerlyTitledUntidy ? eat, read, need and treat). Lots of things on the list below are from a very large list I have from various websites and discussions ? lots are from the US and I took out things that seemed too child orientated (but do remember at least some fun stuff, even for grownups!!). A few ideas specifically of my own are at the top ? but I?ve used lots of the ones on the list too. Hopefully there is something to suit every taste included Grin

Unusual snacks (I found battered broad beans for DH last year, which he quite liked with a beer)
A bottle of Christmas beer (there are a good few Christmas or winter beers ? check specialist off licences)
There are nice more ?grown up? hot choc things that are like a large ice cube size of choc with various flavours (including some with alcohol) at the end of a disposable wooden spoon which would be nice

Bloody hell. It's July and someone is talking about Xmas. Get a life Biscuit

fuzzpig · 13/07/2012 09:07

No need to open threads that are quite clearly in the Christmas topic if you don't want to talk about Christmas. You can hide the topic. There've been threads about it since December 26th, this is relatively late :o

Eh...thanks. I buy throughout the year as it is easier to pick bits up, time to order in if something out of stock and also because I'm skint. I have a life though.

BiddyPop · 13/07/2012 10:09

I find talking about Christmas in July helps enormously as I have lots to buy/craft for and loads of organising to do. But if I do it now (saving money, finding nice things to suit individuals when I have the mental capacity, being less stressed by knowing I HAVE a PLAN!!) - then I can enjoy December and Christmas in a lot more relaxed way. I even get to enjoy wrapping the presents, and go out to a few carol services or other events just for me - even though it's a manic time of year at work and DH is often away too.

And how you can grumble about a Christmas thread on the Christmas board beats me!!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/07/2012 14:48

Biddy love your list (you must have a gi-normous Christmas stocking) Grin

Trouble with Christmas Stockings for me, is most of the things I want before cHristmas (make-up, jewellery etc)

I do Christmas Stockings for the DC (DD 10 and DS 12.6) .
Every year is more of a challenge, but that's half the fun.

And that's why you need to start in July Wink

BiddyPop · 13/07/2012 16:07

70s, I have a few ginormous lists that I put together over the years of ideas from loads of different sources - I've thought of a few fun things for my own siblings stockings as a result, but I am trying to persuade DH that we should do one for each other. My mum is custodian of the siblings ones (I sewed enough for the 6 of us "kids" and the 3 significant others when we moved to stockings for all and a Kris Kringle present for 1 from everyone a few years back - it's an annual draw from a hat for the KK), so I can't even say which one is "mine" - I get a different one every year.

I like to get interesting things for DD's one - like superlong bendy writing pencils or ones with a few colours in the lead, from the National Art Gallery - rather than the run of the mill versions from a general shop. So the hunting goes on all year.

FormerlyTitledUntidy · 13/07/2012 16:18

Yellow don't be :(
I like getting to pick out my own little pressies. Infact I usually buy my own gift from dp too! I hate surprises, so this works for me!
Has anyone ever done a swap on here? I've seen it done on other forums, and it always turns out really nicely.

fuzzpig · 13/07/2012 16:33

Sometimes I don't like surprises either. I'm a bit like Sheldon in big bang theory in that respect. DH does get some amazing gifts for me at random times but at Xmas I would rather just focus on everyone else.

I think I might get DH some little toy knights or something :o

OP posts:
FormerlyTitledUntidy · 13/07/2012 16:37

Fuzzpig, I got toy soldier knight type things in Primark last year for dp. (Plastic tat, yes, but he brought them to his mother's so he can play with them with his little brother :o )

I don't mind surprises if I don't know about it, like if dp brings home flowers or chocolates for me, but when I know he's out shopping for me then I get itchy wondering what he'll come home with :o

fuzzpig · 13/07/2012 22:17

Ooh that's cool thanks.

My extremely generous friend gave me his old iPad today! Shock I am wondering if there is some way I can get DH a game, which DH liked the look of but I wouldn't have bought myself, on the iPad (which is on my account due to me having an old iPhone from the same friend!) and somehow represent it in the stocking. It's Plants vs Zombies HD, by the way. :o

I also really want a scribble stylus thingy...

Just adding this list. 125 stocking fillers sub divided into baby, kids, teens, mums, dads, practical and other :)

Pinot · 16/09/2012 17:04

LOVE this thread

VoldemortsNipple · 16/09/2012 20:06

Stockings last year for everybody included;

Something to eat - chocolate, nutella, nuts,
Something to wear - socks, hat, gloves
Something useful - book, pens, tupperwear boxes (dd put these in mine because she said I'm obsessed with them)
Something of novelty - Hawkins bazaar shite or similar
Something they would like - cd, book, DVD, kitchen gadget

If you think along these lines, you end up with a really good selection In the stockings instead of filling them with shite. It also makes it easier to make them personal.
