Christmas Tree Seeds

Has anyone planted Christmas Tree seeds, nurtured them, then given them in decorated pots as gifts? I thought it might be a good/fun present for Toddler to make this year he likes to plant/water seeds and to paint but I have no idea how early to start. Does anyone know?

With all the springiness around me does anyone know when I should plant Christmas tree seeds? Please?

That's a lovely idea, but you may be a bit late for this year.

I've seen those tiny little trees with hideous fake snow sprayed on them. I've thought about buying one and washing off the snow to see what it would do.

I don't know about seeds but I have a living potted tree (about 4 years old) and it hasn't grown that much. It's top was lopped when we bought it, presumably to keep it small.

And years ago we planted one out (in 1991) which got to 5' -hurrah- but after my neighbours had their extension built ,it died I think it was the mortar/cement seeping from the foundations. We lost a few plants after that.
