What a time to get a cold

It started last Wednesday evening, exactly as our house guests were arriving for a week.

Stuffed nose, sore throat, weary, and worst of all, unable to taste my Christmas dinner or turkey sandwiches Sad.

No sign of it shifting either. Thinking of buying shares in lemsip.

I've had the full blocked nose, sore throat, flu like aches etc. since Friday. Missed the Christmas Day evening snacking as felt rubbish. Dd also poorly as are grandparents! What fun!

Mine started on Thursday. I had to get antibiotics as i have asthma and started wheezing and coughing all night.

I'm sure I'll be well next week when I'm back to work................

BerylStreep · 26/12/2011 20:52

Hope you are all better soon. Thanks for wallowing in my misery. I have spent the day on the sofa, and am worse than ever, probably because I can finally relax.

Oh no :(

Hope you all get better asap, can't imagine anything worse than not being able to taste all the chistmas goodies.

Me too - had to go to bed for nap twice on Christmas day and once today. Am not going to ILs tomorrow because I feel too ill. Kids were ill last week. Just relieved that they weren't ill on Christmas day and that I managed to do enough to make it nice for them.

Finally made it to emergency dr this morning, got antibiotics and told I should get my gp to do blood tests (rather than just say have caught yet another virus), had 4 good days in 2 months. One day on antibiotics and finally begining to feel better, funny sort of virus which gets better on antibiotics. Might be able to enjoy new year!

I'm in the club, had a tickley cough all week, keeps me awake at night.

BerylStreep · 29/12/2011 00:46

Starting to feel a bit better, although slept in to 10am and still had to have a nap this afternoon. I never normally nap!

Hope everyone is feeling a bit better.

Had to go back to GP for more AB's yesterday, now starting to finally feel better, but still tired.

Hope everyone else is on the mend now.

Sympathies- I feel like I have had 3 colds in succession for the last month Sad Felt too wiped out on Christmas day to even get up to watch the kids open presents for the first time ever. Rallied a bit after some paracetamol and decongestant, so it wasn't a washout, but just want to feel healthy!!! So so tired and now back to work, sigh.

TheDetective · 30/12/2011 00:05

Mine also started on 23rd :( been unwell all Christmas, not able to taste or smell all that gorgeous food :(

Ive also had to work, including Xmas day despite feeling rotten - well, you can't call in sick at Christmas!!!! Grrrrr.

And I've pulled a muscle on my left side from coughing so much and exacerbated my costchoriondritis. Yay. Merry Christmas!

"One day on antibiotics and finally begining to feel better, funny sort of virus which gets better on antibiotics."

I (doctor) wouldn't expect any improvement with one day of antibiotics for a bacterial infection, so I'm guessing it really was a virus!

BerylStreep · 03/01/2012 20:16

Bartlet I'm really surprised to hear that. About a year ago I had 5 days of raging fever, uncontrollable chils and severe sore throat. The out of hours doc put it down to a virus when I saw her the first night, and after 5 days I saw my GP who gave me antibiotics and swabbed my throat.

I felt better within about 4 hours of taking the abs, and my GP told me that was one of the signs of it being a bacterial infection. It turned out to be strep throat.

Anyway, I am almost two weeks in to this cold, and still haven't shifted the congestion headaches. I wake up in the night with a completely dry mouth because I have been sleeping with my mouth open. [gross]. I have slightly more energy, though had to take to my bed again on NYD.

Hope you are all feeling better soon.
