When do I shop?!

We are going up to FIL's for christmas and the accumulation of presents from my side and clothes for a week means there is no room to take food with us. FIL doesn't do food shopping unless it is for himself so he slings me the money to go food shopping up there.

I missed out on all the online slots as we weren't sure when we were going to be there so I have to go out. These are my options.

Friday morning 7am. Drawbacks - we will have arrived thursday afternoon and I will be tired and grumpy after a night on the Most Uncomfortable Bed Ever. DD's will be up from 6am so getting up will not be a problem.

Friday during the day. Drawbacks - I went out today for bread and milk and nearly killed about 3 people. Friday will be worst.

Friday night- Drawbacks This is when I did it last year and the shelves were sadly lacking and empty, and there was a mild air of panic surrounding the store.

Saturday morning - I would have to be fricking insane to shop on christmas eve, right?

Options are also sainsbury's on busy retail park, tesco on it's own by a town centre or asda, again on it's own but the other side of town....

I cannto make this decision, I am off work and so my brain has shut down.

Thursday evening.

DH puts DD to bed and you get out to do the shopping as soon as you've arrived.

Oh, that's FAR too sensibleGrin. Will the shelves not be empty before the night restocking though? That is the problem I had last year going in the evening, but then last year I had a foot of snow to contend with as well...

Our local big supermarket (the Irish equivalent to Sainsbugs) say that the afternoon of 23rd is usually VERY quiet - mornings are manic but afternoons are very quiet as erveryone wants to be at home and schools are all out.

Can't verify it yet, but that's our plan (and when the turkey is ordered to be collected at).

Would late in the afternoon on the Friday work?

um, friday am to get it out of the way but have had some sleep. although im not sure how far you are travelling to get to fil?

I had to pop into sainsburys on my way into work this morning and it was madness. I finish at 5 today and am hoping that tomorrow wont be too bad. I have turkey and meats waiting at farm shop and will probably get veggies there too so just chocolate and booze to get at sainsburys or waitrose.

I'm going Saturday afternoon I am mad Blush MIL is coming with we've both decided to try and take advantage of any reductions but every time I see people on here saying its madness I regret it just a little bit more Grin

For the last few years I have gone at 5am Christmas Eve and it's been fine. Although last year was traumatic when I got out of Sainsburys at 6am and found out I'd left the car lights on so had a flat battery Blush
