I thought these sounded familiar.... these are gorgeous. My partner hassled me to get more (they were bought from a Fair type day at the local nursing home) and I had to go and get the recipe for him. They are simple - 4 ingredients - and kids can help too! Very sweet, make them smaller if you can.. bouncy ball sized, not golf-ball sized. Use the best chocolate you can afford!

My phone won't let me open santie's link but here is the recipe from my great-aunt:

1lb dessicated (sp - it's very late!) coconut
1 tin condensed milk
4 tbsp icing sugar

Mix well and shape into balls (my aunt reommended golf ball size but i tend to do mine a bit smaller) and chill until set. I freez3 mine - easier to coat in chocolate.

Melt chocolate (i love sainsburys Belgian cooking chocolate) and toss balls around in melted chocolate with 2 forks. Put on parchment and chill until chocolate is set.

I'm no baker by any stretch of the imagination but I can manage these and they're amazing!

Oooo these sound good I might try to make some for friends tomorrow as I am struggling with ideas for Christmas gifts. I remember home-made ones someone did as a kid yummy!!!

I made some Oreo balls yesterday which are a similar type thing and they were gorgeous! Couple of packets of Oreos blitzed into crumbs, mixed with enough cream cheese to make a rollable dough. Roll into balls, freeze then coat in choc. I used White choc and then drizzled a bit of dark choc over the top. They look and taste amazing.

I'm very tempted to give these coconut balls a go too!

You can use eggs and sugar to bind rather than condensed milk if you like....also add some lime ride and juice in them....delicious. I make them often for DSs pack lunch

Daft question alert

Is the condensed milk straight out a tin or boiled?

DillyTinsel · 17/12/2011 09:42

Sound yummy!

mrstiredandconfused · 17/12/2011 12:39

Straight out of the tin, Fairy. Looks like these are going to be popular going into 2012!
