Need something for FIL but we are a bit restricted as he has MS so all the things he has loved over the years he is unable to do including his big passion for model boat making Sad He is also on a very restricted diet so can't do nice foodie/wine hamper. His mobility is quite poor now as well. He doesn't watch a lot of TV so can't do dvd boxsets or anything and he's not that in to sports. He used to love gardening but can't do much of that any more.

He is very in to boats/ships (was a shipbuilder before he retired). Please MN any ideas? I so want to get him something lovely. He's a great man and it's been so sad to watch him have to give up all the things he used to love.

Could you take him somewhere, a convention or model boat show?

If you look at local literature (in somewhere like waterstones) there will probably be some books on the local shipyards, they make nice gifts.

Some nice clothes - cashmere jumper, leather gloves, sheepskin slippers etc

Audio books?

Wish I could think of more......

Ooh thank you audiobooks good idea as is books on the local shipyards. I guess he could exchange if he already has them.

I thought of clothes but he couldn't tell the difference if it was Armani or Primarni so think it would be a bit lost on him.

I was looking at a Tall Ships experience day where you go sailing on the ship for a day. It says it's accessible but also that participants can climb the mast etc too so didn't want the day to highlight what he can't do anymore.

I think the Tall Ships experience that you mention would be wonderful - but you are the best judge as whether your FIL could cope with that or not.

Have found this for him. Think he will enjoy growing the grapes. Am off to Waterstones tomorrow to get a shipyard book to go with. Thank you!
