What happens at the beginning of Elf?

Gah - only realises it was on after it started so recorded on channel 4 +1 but still missed first 25 mins. Can anyone fill me in on what I need to know?

Buddy is a baby in an orphanage and crawls into santas sack one year and gets taken to the north pole.

He is adopted by papa elf and brought up as an elf. He isn't the sharpest tool in the box and doesn't realise he isn't actually an elf until he overhears others talking about it when he's no good at toymaking.

Papa elf has to explain about the orphanage and tells him his mum has died but his dad is well and living in new york.

Buddy leaves the north pole to go and find his biological dad.

His dad is a twat...
