Do you put nice things in it for Christmas Eve like hot choc? I am intrigued.

I have never heard of one.

I suppose you could make a hamper up and fill it with lovely things.

If you are doing hot choc, don't forget the squirty cream and marshmallows. Xmas Grin

4ForksSake · 08/12/2011 14:35

Ususally stuff like new pj's, christmas dvd / book, few christmas activities to keep the kids occupied while you have a few sherries get the last minute things ready for the big day, hot choc, marshmallows, choc, popcorn.

gregssausageroll · 08/12/2011 15:06

Christmas PJ's and slippers. Christmas Chocolate. DVD.

I leave mine with the neighbour and get her to ring the bell and run for it so the parcel is there when DS answers the door. We leave a note in it saying Santa will be there soon and that the elves have been past to check he's been a good boy.

leftmymistletoeatthedoor · 08/12/2011 15:18

Ds and dd get new pjs, socks, xmas book each (father christmas needs a wee and a pop up one this year), a xmas dvd, popcorn and some reindeer dust.

PresentsRibbonsAndMerrySantas · 08/12/2011 15:38

do you wrap the items up, or just pop them in a wraped open box? i am thinking of doing one, have never done one before, but know the dc's would love it, so you get
dvd [thinking mr poppers penguins]
new pj's
choc
hot choc and marshmellows
anything else? Xmas Smile

leftmymistletoeatthedoor · 08/12/2011 16:06

I haven't done one before but this year I'm thinking of a gift box / box wrapped but open iyswim with tissue paper / tinsel around the gifts. Does that make any sense?? Don't wnat to wrap because ds would think that meant he could open all presents!!
I would (and do) get them a xmas book if I were you, quite important I think. Good call on the choice of dvd, I might get that too.

PresentsRibbonsAndMerrySantas · 08/12/2011 16:14

thanks, will have a look around for a nice christmas book Xmas Grin

leftmymistletoeatthedoor · 08/12/2011 19:14

PresentsRibbonsAndMerrySantas · 08/12/2011 19:15

Mine have got a red tesco gift bag (basics range) that they have decorated in a Christmas manner. In there are
New PJs, hot choc sachet, socks to match their PJs, novelty Christmas bubble bath shapes and Christmas DVD. Closer to the day I will also go to the local bakery and pick up a Christmas shaped gingerbread biscuit (or I may make my own with the kids).

YougreatChristmaspudding · 08/12/2011 20:53

In our house it is

PJs
marshmallows (kids don't like chocolate)
book each
Christmas movie
reindeer dust
christmassy bath bomb/bubbles

They are all put in the porch by the Christmas fairy who also leaves a note to say FC is on his way and everyone in bed sleeping my 8pm or he won't be able to stop. A great neighbour pops it in the porch, rings the bell and runs away whilst we are eating supper.

VoldemortsNipple · 08/12/2011 22:46

My dcs are older 9, 12 and 15

We have

Pjs,
lush bath bomb/bubble bar in Christmassy design
Popcorn plastic tub and popcorn
Coke glass (from maccies)
Can of coke
Harry Potter part 2
Snowman soup.

We are going to watch HP part 1 in the afternoon, then have tea, give dcs hampers, bath, pjs, HP part 2 with popcorn, snowman soup, bed.

Well that's the plan anyway :o

mintchocchick · 08/12/2011 23:33

BlackCatinaSantaHat · 09/12/2011 11:19

This all sounds lovely! Xmas Smile
I had never heard of it till this year so am thinking of doing one. I would love to be all organised and ready by Christmas eve instead of the last minute crazy present wrapping that I did last year.

Hopefully · 09/12/2011 11:51

Ooh, this sounds like such fun! I am converted.

Have made pjs for the boys, so they can have those, and maybe a Christmas story or something, and some hot choc. Hooray!

bananamam · 09/12/2011 11:56

Ours have new pjs, new mugs(£1 shop), sachets of hot choc(got these free when I complimented the company), a free Charlie and Lola book for dd and a free cadburys monkey for ds(again I complimented companies)..I wanted the whole hamper for free!, marshmallows, sweets, popcorn and DVD.

Nezzi · 09/12/2011 13:43

Oo, what's snowman soup?

perceptionreality · 09/12/2011 14:05

For my 3 girls I've done

New pjs
slippers
DVD
hot chocolate
marshmallows
bag of chocolate coins

buzzgirly · 09/12/2011 14:32

I'm planning one for my dd this year, going to include

new pjs
expanding facecloth
chocolate snowman
Ariel bubble bath

When are you planning giving yours to DC? I was planning leaving it out at around 4pm, it will be a gift from the xmas elf!

ReshapeWhileDamp · 09/12/2011 19:26

This is a great idea! We already have our Elf on a Shelf (or Elf Swinging from the Light Fitting as he usually is) and he can bring the hamper as it gets dark. I've already got some new PJs (well, for DH and DS1 anyway. It's a work in progress.), and the reindeer food I bought from Preschool can go in too. DS1 has just learnt to love hot chocolate, so that'll go in, and perhaps I can abstract a nice Christmassy book from the Christmas book basket that we haven't got properly stuck into yet. Not sure if we can fit in a dvd but maybe Polar Express - is that ok for a nearly 4 yo?

Dysgu · 09/12/2011 20:15

Snowman Soup

This is what I give to all the children in my class each year as a Christmas gift. Get a single serving packet of hot chocolate, some mini marshmallows and a candy cane. I package it in Santa cellophane and print the following messages onto gift tags which I tie onto the mini gift bags I teach them to fold during the run up to the holiday!

Was told you've been real good this year.
Always glad to hear it!
With freezing weather drawing near,
You'll need to warm the spirit.

So here's a little Snowman Soup
Complete with stirring stick.
Add hot water, sip it slow.
It's sure to do the trick!

PresentsRibbonsAndMerrySantas · 09/12/2011 20:22

Xmas Grin thats is fab

ChocHobNob · 10/12/2011 08:54

I have done this for a couple of years too.

Our hampers contain:

PJs
DVD
Popcorn
Chocolate
Christmas mug with Snowman soup
Christmas crafts
Reindeer food
Letter from Santa thanking them for being good this year and asking them to go to bed early and not peek.
