Scooter questions...

We'd like to get DS a scooter for Christmas. He has just turned two but is built more like a 3-year old both in terms of height and weight.

I assumed we'd get the micro-scooter but DH thinks we should go straight to the maxi-micro-scooter. I've just been having a look and see that they are intended for 6-12 year olds.

Is there a particular reason why we shouldn't go for the maxi scooter?

Also, where is the best price at the moment for these things?

Maxi micro scooters are bit heavier and also bar would be probably too high for 2-year old. I think he would struggle with maxi micro. My DS is 2.5 and tall for his age, and mini micro is just right for him, maybe even bit high to scoot properly. He's still very slow on it.

Not sure about the prices, when I bought it few months ago, looked like the price was pretty much the same everywhere, £40+ something. In the end we picked it up locally from bike shop.

Just have to persuade DH now of the merits of something smaller and easier for me to carry when DS gives up.

We got DS (2.5, but also very tall) a mini micro one. When we looked at it (obviously without him) it seemed perfect for his height and will last a few good years. Also got it from JoJo with the discount

For a 2 year old i would stick to the mini, we have the maxi for our 4.10 ds at christmas after him having a mini for 3 years I cant wait to see his face!

The lowest setting on the maxi is the same as the mini iyswim.

However the maxi is quite heavy and IMO a 2yr old will struggle to get it up kerbs etc.

My dd(3) has the mini although she does sometimes ride ds (6)'s maxi.

DH has gone ahead and ordered the Maxi and a strap so that we can pull DS along when he gets tired.

I have told him that he can do the pulling.

my ds has a micro scooter he is 5, but his sister rides it and she is only 3, the handle setting is quite high, but you can 'lock' it off so the handle is right down, its not a setting, but they tell you you can do this for younger/shorter dc's, you need to tighten it up with the allen key, this height is perfect [push the handle bar as far down as it will go [so no stem is showing] and tighten off really well] i will be getting dd one next summer and i will be going straight for the maxi for her [she is a small 3 year old]

the maxi is the best one to get

wow i got dd the mini for her 4th bday - her sister 6 has the maxi - i think its way too big for age 2!!!!! - even the mini is only just for age 2!!!! if is too big it'll be hard work and he wont use it - i'd take him to john lewis for a sly test!

We have done sly testing in JL and TBH DS wasn't very good on either and DH did most of the testing.

But the Maxi wasn't obviously too tall for him and he's a whopping strong lad, so we'll give it a shot.

Worst case scenario is that it's too big for him, we stick it in the loft until he's 6, and have to get the Mini in the meantime. Shall report back!
