Lego advent calender - bit pants really?

Is it me or is anyone else thinking the same?

I am a lifelong Lego devotee. My fave toy in childhood, and now my sons...

For nearly £30 some doting relatives bought my two DS's one for Christmas. 5 days in and despite the amazing looking Lego City picture on the front, the tiny amount of bricks in a little plastic bag each day bears no resemblance to the picture of what you are meant to make with them on the inside of the door.

As a result we have a very small and sad looking pile of little bricks, a dog an half a tiny sledge.....

Anyone else - or did we get a duff one, packed in the factory in August by spotty faced 17 year old danish youth who thought it would be great fun to stuff any old thing in each door to confuse and disappoint small children?

We had one a few years ago and each day was a little set that worked on it's own, whereas this years looked like you got a tiny portion of a big scene every day IYSWIM?

Conkertree · 05/12/2011 08:54

Ds1 (4) and ds2 (2.6) are loving theirs. We've had a robber, police man, snowball catapault and two sides of a prison cell so far. I was thinking it was pretty good value, given how much the sets cost, but then we only paid about £17 for it. I dont think we would have paid £30.

ObiWanWithBellsOn · 05/12/2011 10:12

I like ours, we have the City and Star Wars ones.

So far, I think the City one has been the best - but we're holding out for Yoda Xmas Grin.

The minifigs cost £2 each in the little packets, so it's not bad when you consider that by day 5 we had two minifigs already.

Conkertree · 05/12/2011 10:42

Maybe yours has been put in in the wrong order cakeymakey, cause looking at the picture, there is a dog to come, but it hasnt come out yet, and all the pictures have corresponded to what has come out each day, eg building a side of the police cell for the last two days has shown on the doors.

Guess that 17 year old that packed it could have been having a laugh after all Grin.

Just checked Conkertree, and thats what we are supposed to have from the pictures.....I think we have suffered a packaging incident.....tray in the wrong way Blush.

Can't say for sure whether it is fault of spotty faced danish youth, or my own angelic (?) rosy cheeked offspring.....

mmmm a nice email to lego headquaters, send them a picture.
You might get a VIP trip to the factory to make up for it!
My DH is obsessed with lego..he wants the advent calender but cant admit it...! too late this year!

ClaimedByMe · 05/12/2011 13:02

DS5 is loving his, but its making me a bit anal, ds keeps taking other lego to the calender and mixing it up, i keep hovering around and fixing it!

yellowflowers · 05/12/2011 13:04

I got one for dh the first year we were together - can't afford such loveliness now we have mortgage and child - and it was great.

Conkertree · 05/12/2011 17:52

Glad you worked it out cakeymakey - just came on to suggest exactly that with the upside down tray, after a discussion with dh at the dinner table Grin.

SantaffetaClaus · 05/12/2011 18:01

DS isn't that impressed by his Star Wars one.

DD, OTOH, has a Playmobil one that she loves.

r3dh3d · 06/12/2011 17:59

DD2 (and I Xmas Blush) highly impressed by the Star Wars one. Mind you, got it relatively cheap from Argos which probably helps a fair bit.

The other thing that helps is me recognising the pictures and waxing lyrical about each day's offering while we struggle to make it. I was beside myself when Boba Fett's spaceship turned up yesterday. Xmas Grin

Kellywestie · 06/12/2011 18:35

Our DS (9) is loving the City one, never had the Lego one before - great Christmas tree this morning.

ujjayi · 06/12/2011 19:14

Despite being a life long Star Wars fan, I am bitterly disappointed with the Advent calendar. It isn't remotely Christmassy and just seems to be rather meh - little bits for the sake of it rather than building up a scene. Much preferred the Lego City and Lego Kingdom versions we had for the last 2 years.

HohohomoaneeInAManger · 06/12/2011 19:42

We have StarWars (DH!) and Polly Pocket (DD) The lego one is deffo better than the Polly one at the mo. We had Chewbacca in the lego one and a 2nd handbag in the polly one.

Daftapath · 06/12/2011 20:51

Ds loves Star Wars minifigures so is quite happy with his Star Wars advent calendar so far. We are all very excited about the prospect of "Exclusive Yoda"!?

Dd has her Hello Kitty one and is happy so far too.
