I don't have a clue, dp doesn't know what to get & dd1's oh so very helpful idea was Matey for a Friday night when she stays at nana's!!

We suggested shoes because she's needed some for months & hasn't got round to buying any (yes, I know they'd be more than a fiver) but we got told off for it so dropped it.

She always says chocolates for either a birthday or Xmas present but we know this is because she knows we're as skint as she is & not because she actually wants chocolates, just for us not to spend a fortune.

Any suggestions?

A nice smelly candle?
Picture of dgc?
A picture calendar?

mckenzie · 04/12/2011 21:26

How about making her up a mini hamper with a few luxury food items that she perhaps loves, but doesn't buy herself because they are more expensive than basic food items? It needn't mean you have to spend a lot. You can make a small 'hamper' out of an old tissue box (lots of sneezing going on in our house at the moment so we seem to have lots of empty tissue boxes and that's where I got the idea from), a tin of red salmon perhaps, some cashews or brazil nuts??

Earrings? ornament? Teddy bear with Best Grandma or similar on it?
Could you get a really big T shirt and let DD fabric paint it for Nannato be a nightshirt?

omaoma · 04/12/2011 21:31

nice plant from the garden centre? wrap it in some nice paper and ribbon?

Oxfam unwrapped do things that start at a fiver (if she'd enjoy that kind of thing!)

can you knit or sew? could probably make a cushion cover or tea cosy for that amount of raw materials?

does she like puzzles - these are quite nice www.amazon.co.uk/Pocket-Posh-Sudoku-100-Puzzles/dp/0740777866

An " oldie" DVD , and a box of micro popcorn ( movie night box ?)

HandMini · 04/12/2011 22:08

MMmm, definitely the home made hamper. Little bag of cashews, homemade biccies, nice jam, decorated by the DCs.

droves · 04/12/2011 22:08

Actually , there is a site called Freelabelmaker.com.

You can make a personilsed wine label .

Do one that says mil Christ ass 2011 , lots of love lucysmama & mrlucysmama .
Shove it on a bottle of plonked , shove in a box with tissue paper and wrap with a bow !

Personal , and delicious , what more can you ask for ?

So many suggestions & I only gave control of the computer to dp for an hour, I quite like the idea of a mini luxury hamper maybe. Or the movie night box, she's quite into scary horror films

She's not really into papering, although I'm not sure if that's by choice or dictated by money. & she's not really a display family pics on the wall kind of person either whereas I'd love for someone to get me a nice frame for yet another picture of my girls.

Not a drinker or a gardener either really, she takes care of the plants that were in the garden when she moved into her house but that's about it.

Will have a look at those puzzles as well, omaoma, she does occasionally dabble in the odd puzzle book.

Thank-you so much. I'll run these by dp since she's his mam but I can see it being left to me to decide in the end

For small gifts around a tenner,I head to Paperchase. They do little boxes of cards-blank inside. These are perfect for sending thanks you notes,RSVPs etc. I always have a box in the house. I usually get a pen too. I know I'm too generous! Grin
Cath Kidson do similar ones. Although these are mini-ones.

lucysmam · 04/12/2011 22:13

droves.....I lost an M&M giggling at your post!! She's not a drinker really but I will suggest it just because it made me laugh lol

Lucysmama , that site does labels for everything , you could get one for any gift , or even for a box of popcorn !

All you need is a printer , prit stick and paper Grin

lucysmam · 04/12/2011 22:24

Brill, will use them then if we go with something like the hamper ideas. He's playing xbox at the mo & chattering away over the headset to some random being or other playing footy on there
