How many lights do I need for a 6ft tree please. I've googled and answers range from 50 Hmm to 1200 Shock

neither of these seem right to me.

Somewhere in the middle! Will consult dd tomorrow who has had her 6ft tree up for 2 weeks!

Knownothingknowitall · 02/12/2011 09:25

I'm sure I read that 100 lights per ft looked best.

Methe · 02/12/2011 09:54

As many as you want!

We have 2 strings of 200 (I think) on a 6 ft tree.

It depends what type of lights, the micro cluster lights have many more bulbs per foot of cable because they are so small.

We have the ordinary old fashioned sort and we have 100 lights on a 5ft tree which looks fine to me. We want room for the decs as well! I would have thought 200 lights for a 6ft tree would be fine for the ordinary sort. The new ones have me stumped because the way of calculating how many you need is different. Plus, I don't like multi functions and only want static, I'd resent paying for functions I'm not going to use.

Last year we had 160 on our 6' tree and it wasn't really enough. It was OK, but I'm going to get another string this year.

Listzilla · 02/12/2011 11:17

We put 512 micro lights on a 6 footish real tree and I think it looks about right.

startail · 02/12/2011 11:36

Depends totally on the lights.
We have a 100 multicoloured ones and they aren't bright enough so we have an old static sting of 40, to make the decorations twinkle.
(we added a set of flicker in candles last year, but those are Christmas addicts getting carried away - they are not necessary, we have other fairy lights all over the inside and outside of the house).
Basically I suspect 1-200 with modern shadeless lights.

Oh and separate strings are much raise than one very long one, even if they are a pain for sockets.

startail · 02/12/2011 11:39

Easier, sorry that's auto correct reminding me to get off MN and do the house workGrin

HamblesHandbag · 02/12/2011 16:53

OK thanks all, I'll go for 200 I think. Let my tree be never knowingly underlit Smile

A bit late to get back to you but dd said 120. Really hamble I've seen the tree. You really don't need more imo. x
