Video message from Santa - Alternative to PNP ?

Tillyscoutsmum · 30/11/2011 21:19

I've used portable north pole for the video messages for the last couple of years but for some reason, I can't get it to work this year Sad (It keeps telling me I need to update my flash player but then it won't let me download it). Anyway ..

Can anyone recommend an alternative please ?

Thanks

I couldn't get it to load this year either. I found one alternative on shelter's website but it was a suggested donation of £10 and I can't stretch to that for 2 of them. I'll watch this thread with interest. Smile

Hummm, I've just tried to do it prompted by this thread & am having the same problem with flash - wonder if there's something going on....?

funnypeculiar · 30/11/2011 21:26

this one looks free

Tillyscoutsmum · 30/11/2011 21:26

Ah. At least its not just me being a bit of a technophobe then Grin

Brilliant. Thanks funnypeculiar - will try that one now.

Incidentally, do people really send these to adults ?! Confused

Do you know, I wonder if there's something going on. I've just downloaded the latest version of flash & it's still saying I'm not up to date. And the download on the site (when I clicked through that way) didn't look like a flash update to me...

funnypeculiar · 30/11/2011 21:32

Oh, and I have to admit, every year I debate sending one to my FIL, although I never have yet! Grin

TwoNoisyBoys · 30/11/2011 21:38

I've managed to get the PNP to load, but its not the same as last year - there's only one option of Santa talking, (last year you could have him talking from the reindeer stables, his own room etc) so I was able to create two separate ones for my 2 DS's that looked individual. This year, despite uploading different details, the videos are practically identical.........I haven't bothered showing them to the kids yet, because I know they'll be suspicious about Father Christmas sending the almost EXACT same message twice - shame, because last year it was a massive highlight for me them Grin

funnypeculiar · 30/11/2011 21:42

Thats interesting TwoNoisyBoys - maybe we're better off not being allowed in!

Tillyscoutsmum · 30/11/2011 21:46

I agree funnypeculiar. It tried to download it to my iphoto Confused

I've done the other one you linked to. Its ok. It doesn't have DD's or DS's name in its database which is a shame. I DD will still love it though Grin

i made a PNP vid at the weekend, and have had trouble getting the site to load

when it is accesible, it's great!

paulapantsdown · 30/11/2011 21:53

I too am really disappointed with PNP this year, especially after telling all my friends about it. I think this is the last year for DS1 and Santa too, so was hoping this would help keep the magic alive for him, but since discovering elsewhere that there is only 1 type of video then I won't bother trying to make it work anymore.

Why change something that worked fine ... so frustrating.

TwoNoisyBoys · 30/11/2011 21:59

If you've got just the one child to make a video for, then its great, but the problem for me is that two messages came out almost the same - it was FABULOUS last year, so I'm pretty disappointed this year tbh - I cant knock the quality of the message itself, just a shame there's no other options to make it different for siblings.

funnypeculiar · 30/11/2011 22:12

YY twonoisyboys - that was the really good thing about PNP last year - same Santa, but very different messages!

thatboysmum · 01/12/2011 01:37

I did one for my DS on the 25th of November and it was working fine, my sister tried to do one on sunday and she was getting the flash player message too. There must be a problem with the site at the moment, maybe it will be up and running soon.

MrsDistinctlyMintyMonetarism · 01/12/2011 04:16

I'm disappointed with the changes to PNP this year, having raved about it last year.

You can't put a picture of the toy that they've asked for this year either can you? Plus I noticed that you can't set a goal for your child's behaviour for next year either. I don't want to choose that my child is nice or naughty - how about nice with things to improve?

MrsDistinctlyMintyMonetarism · 01/12/2011 04:29

I just tried the one funnypeculiar linked to ^ up there, and it's ok, but Father Christmas has an american accent. Hmm

GwendolineMaryLacedwithBrandy · 01/12/2011 07:01

I had trouble with it this year and when it finally worked I was sorry I bothered! Last year dd was entranced and asked to watch it about 8 times a day. This time she just went "hmmm yeah..." and went back to CBeebies. So either she's got wise to it (unlikely as she's 3!) or this year's one is crap.

Liliana1 · 01/12/2011 07:13

The 'email santa' website is good but not sure if you can send it to someone else. (does take a while but nice to do with children)

thatboysmum · 04/12/2011 21:21

My sister managed to use the PNP website yesterday so I assume it's all up and running again now incase any of you wanted to give it another go.
