Is anyone making presents for DC?

Father Christmas brings our DC far too many a few lovely presents, but DH and I also like to make some presents for DS(2) and this year DD(6m).

DS is getting a post box - made from sturdy shoe box, with postcards from all his favourite book characters. Plus some1p stamps and stuff.
previously he got a shop from pampers boxes and bought and made food. Still loves it.

DD is getting a rail with crystal knobs, cushions and some bunting.

Looking for ideas apart from kitchen, as hope to make for birthday.

Thx

I was going to make ds (9) a patchwork blanket with photos printed on some of the squares but only decided to do it a few weeks ago but had already committed myself to too many other projects so it's on hold until his birthday or next Christmas.

DD1(8) is making her little brother (12 months) a car out of a cardboard box. She has painted it blue and cut out a door. There is a boot at the back for his toys and she has made lights out of tissue paper and a personalized number plate. Its to go with his cardboard box cottage which he loves and spends a lot of time in.

Sewing an apron and matching pe bag. Might get around to alphabet or number beanbags.

lordsugars that is sooo cute!

DD is getting a black glittery tutu and DS is getting a mini felt playmat for his diggers (but at the rate I'm going, they prob won't be ready till next Christmas Smile)

babyocho · 30/11/2011 23:06

what a great idea.

MrsDobalina - how do you make a tutu?

FrumpyPumpy · 01/12/2011 15:04

ooh I made a tutu last night. There are online tutorials but basically you tie strips of net onto a length of ribbon or elastic. The strips need to be double the length you want the tutu to be and you use them folded in 2, loop the folded end under the ribbon/elastic then over the top, pulling the loose ends through the loop you've made. Pull tighter then squish loads together closely. You can leave the ribbon so can be tied or sew ends of elastic together.
Tadah!

I sometimes wish my DSs were DDs just so I could make tutus Grin

This year I'm making:
-Soft bricks (stuffed with cushion pad foam) decorated like little houses and shops.
-Felt food
-Play mat for DS2 so I can throw out the godawful baby gym
-Knitted socks
-maybe some fancy dress stuff, but DS1 isn't really that into it and I'd basically be doing it for my own entertainment Blush

Hopefully · 01/12/2011 16:17

MrsDobelina are you using a pattern for the play mat?

MrsDobalina · 01/12/2011 19:13

Thanks tricky! That's exactly it and I was going to try and link to the blog I was copying but just haven't got round to working how to today Confused

hopefully no I bought some large felt squares and kind of made it up using different coloured felt and iron on webbing stuff. I got the ideas from typing 'felt car playmat' into google Grin

CherrysOnTheNaughtyList · 01/12/2011 19:25

not personally but my girls are getting knitted gifts- care bears from my mum, and knitted picnic set from a friend of mine.

Bluetinkerbell · 01/12/2011 19:27

I made a doorway puppet theatre for DD, bought fabric in Ikea and tension rods online! Also made the bag to put it in! It's lovely Grin even though I say so myself Wink
(it was my first sewing project)

Flubba · 01/12/2011 19:41

DDs are getting crayon rolls and DS is getting a car roll (pics on profile). All are getting aprons with their initial on them. Also making bunting (not so much as a present, but to decorate their rooms).

Love the idea of a post box and letters - think I could do something like that out of felt and fabric pens. Stamps with velcro bits on? Hmm

DDs get way too much at Xmas but I always like to make them a present too that means something because its from me. This year I am knitting scarf for DD1 (12) and I dont know quite what for dD2 yet.

DD2 and I are making soap to give everyone from her, and millionaires shortbread to give to her dad.
