How many Advent Calendars do you have?

Go on. I mean honestly, how many? Grin

I realised that I might have a slight calendar problem when I decided that I had to make this one. On November 24th. I've reined myself in now and have come to accept that there is no way on earth I'm going to manage to make the felt tree AND all 24 ornaments in 6 days. But how many calendars do we already have, poised in readiness?

  1. Cardboard calendar with traditional pictures. Chosen by DS1. Christmas wouldn't be the same without it.
2.Playmobil Dinosaur calendar for DS1. He doesn't know about it yet and this is the first year we've done one with little toys in.
  1. I actually already had a playmo calendar, the Woodland Christmas one, bought off ebay last year in a fit of madness after getting sucked into the MN Playmobil Enthusiasm Thread. Grin I set it aside for this year and then got the Dinosaur one as part of an offer at Toys R Us. I think it'll have to wait until next year. DS1 can't have two playmo calendars. Can he? Can he??
  2. My mum gave us a wooden train calendar with lots of little numbered drawers for chocolates, but since DS1 is train-mad and 3, it's stayed unused as yet because he'll just get it down all the time, and as stated, This Is Not A Toy. It's already sustained minor damage. Sad
  3. My MIL will give DS1 (and for all I know, 11 mo DS2) a chocolate calendar, as she does every year.

Blush That's too many, isn't it? I think in practical terms, that's going to be one cardboard, one playmo and one chocolate calendar and the others will be saved (or made) for future years. And of course, DS2 will be old enough sort of for a cardboard one of his own next year. How many are operating in your household?

Who cares?? Its christmas!
If people (yes my family included) want to spoil their kids/grandkids at christmas then its no-one elses business!
I always make a point of doing the more sentimental things with ds as well!
So what if he has a few choc/toy calenders!! Its a treat, it doesnt happen all year round!

CointreauVersial · 27/11/2011 22:05

My children are clearly deprived and abused, and should be taken into care at the earliest opportunity. They get one advent calendar each. In the past they have had one between them. And if I don't get a move on they won't be getting any at all this year, because I had forgotten it's nearly December.

pointydog · 27/11/2011 22:14

Oh aye. I bet the kids who get one or more advent calendars each, certainly do get treats all year round. Over-indulgent parents.

PersonalClown · 27/11/2011 22:14

I can't help noticing that only me and TheElvesSawBatman...... (Im not writing all that!) are the only fraeks loons lovely people that have got their pets an advent calendar!!

I don't know whether to be proud or ashamed.

PersonalClown · 27/11/2011 22:14

Batgirl even... I give up..

irregularegular · 27/11/2011 22:15

We've only ever had one, between two children. I thought having one per child was a bit excessive - I had no idea people had more than that!!

They are 8 and 9. We've had a traditional picture one, playmobil twice, lego (didn't like that much - not Christmassy enough - playmobil is much nicer and cheaper). Last year my mum gave us a wooden one with drawers so we are using that again this year. I put a Christmas jigsaw in it, plus chocolate about once a week. I refuse to buy the chocolate ones.

irregularegular · 27/11/2011 22:15

Oh and - we do have an advent candle to burn each evening, but I don't count that...

PresentsRibbonsAndMerrySantas · 27/11/2011 22:19

oh poo, none, i have forgot, too busy buying presents, off to shops tomorrow to get 4 Blush although no idea where they will go, do you think dc's will notice if i don't get any Hmm they have not really mentioned them yet.

TheElvesSawBatgirlKissingSanta · 27/11/2011 22:22

Personal At least yours is for the dogs! Mine is for a rodent incredibly sweet, cute, loving rodent, but a rodent all the same ! Grin

And no pointydog ds does not get treats all year round. Bday is also in dec so we like to spoil him! My child...will spoil rotten for a month if thats what I want to do... and it is!!!

I would like to clarify that I am not the one who buys him the choc calenders. I actually think theyre abit gross, chocolate doesnt taste right Hmm ! But Gparents like to, so I let them!

bytheMoonlight · 27/11/2011 22:29

None ... Really must get my bottom in gear tomorrow.

What shop can I a non chocolate calender from that is ridiculously overpriced and has a nice traditional theme?

Can I ask why some of you have a playmobil/lego calender for each of your children? Surely they could share?

I'm thinking I might give it a go! Lets have a year long christmas!! Grin

Don't know if you have a House of Cards locally, ByTheMoonlight, but the one we have always has a nice selection of traditional, mostly German, paper calendars with lots of glitter and no nasty chocolate. Grin I think a lot of card shops get them in. They also sell them at the Cards for Good Causes stalls that you often get in churches or town halls - that's where we got DS's one. Smile

Wow, I never heard of Advent calendars until I had children, and they are lucky if I remember to get them one each.

NormanTheForeman · 28/11/2011 18:25

Three cardboard ones in this house - one for ds, one for me, and one for dh (but only because he complains if he doesn't get one - half the time he forgets to open the damn thing!)

And a Playmo one for ds (Post Office this year).

And yes, you can have as many Playmo calendars as you like Wink!

But no choc here - none of us are that keen really.

PresentsRibbonsAndMerrySantas · 28/11/2011 19:31

4 have now entered the house all cadburys choc ones, one each, dp got them on his way home, but where is mine Sad i am the only one that has been good Smile

Doitnicelyplease · 28/11/2011 20:37

We have two reusable ones. One we had pre DC which is a felt christmas tree that gets decorated with little felt pictures each day (a snowman, a bauble, a mittten etc) - it is really nice to watch the tree fill up with 'decorations' as the month goes on. The other MIL sent last year for DD a huge wooden house thingy which we put small christmassy chocs in for her.

Two is plenty for us!

CDMforever · 28/11/2011 21:27

reshape, your felt christmas tree advent calendar is utterly gorgeous.

I am in awe of you!

Chez nous we have 4 chocolate advent calendars (which I hate but they love) aaaaaaand tada! A brand spanking new wooden advent calendar which I'm in the process of filling with activities and tasks! I have redeemed myselfGrin
