made the recipe kindly suggested on the other thread and have decanted today. Have been straining using coffee filters but still getting the powdered spices creeping through and it looks (and prob tastes) gritty. Any other suggestions from you seasoned Christmas makers? Thanks.

I strained mine through a sieve and then a sieve with 4 layers of muslin - and I was STILL left with sediment! Tbh I'm not sure what else I could do, but have taken comfort from another poster saying that sediment is fine and makes it look home made.

I have sediment too! I'm going to leave it settle in the fridge and carefully try and drain the top part off.

There's GOT to be a way to lose the sediment - I'm bumping this because I have to strain my Xmas pudding vodka (it's been stewing since September!) so am hoping someone will come through with the answer! I heard that someone put it through a Britta filter-type thing? Can't imagine you would be able to use it for filtering your water afterwards though?!

Paper coffee filter?

SageMist · 27/11/2011 22:37

Ooops, see you tried that already, Blush

I am filtering my Xmas pud vodka next week.

Does it have to be stored in the fridge after?

DoingTheBestICan · 28/11/2011 07:31

I strained mine through a fine sieve lined in thick kitchen paper once, then again through the fine sieve 3 times through muslin & the last time through coffee filter. There was no sediment in mine at all.

I take heart from your success DoingTheBestICan and hope I can achieve the same Smile I don't think I'd like to drink anything with a sediment! I have a problem in that I got my Xmas Pudding Vodka going back in September and have got carried away doing other crafty stuff that it's just been left (in a dark cool place with a weekly shake I hasten to add!) I think I am really going to have to MASH the fruity stuff to extract the liquid because it's almost completely been absorbed. Am thinking that I could actually "dilute" the syrup I extract with more vodka to make it stretch. Should be getting another lot on the go which will obviously only have a 2-3 week stewing time.
