Have a look at "American Girl" - subscription fairly cheap, lots of crafty stuff, plus the added kudos that it is a bit different.

Oh I have just seen that it says for ages 8-12, so may be a little young? Have a look online and see what you think.

She also reads Kerang but she is into that type of music.
