Previous years we have put ours up on Christmas eve, but I wonder when and why other families put theirs up at certain times or even if you have yours up now.

The weekend after dd's birthday, so the 17th/18th this year.

I might let dd have hers up before that as she alllowed me in her room with a roll of black bags yesterday and it's Christmas ready.

middle of december

My birthday is the 7th and we've agreed it won't go up before then. I actually quite like the idea of putting it up on my birthday and having a lovely family time doing it, with carol CDs etc. or it might be the day after.

It stays up until the 6th of jan.

A few days before Christmas Eve. We get a real one fresh cut from Scotland and delivered to the door. It comes down on the 12th night.

I can't believe people are taking down their trees the day after Boxing Day! It's still Christmas!

For me, I'd rather not put the tree up early and then be so faffed off with it I wanted it out of the house before New Years Eve.

It reminds me of once when I popped to Tescos for cream at 3pm on Christmas Eve and they were dismantling the tree and taking down the decorations. It was depressing!

around the 20th or later.

Down on 1st of Jan, start of the new year etc.

If you have it up for weeks and weeks it's just not special.

It's still 17 degrees here, warm and sunny, doesn't feel like Christmas yet. It would feel wrong.

After DS2's birthday on the 20th.

18th December

I am embarrassed to admit mine went up yesterday! I am NEVER ever normally this early. It usually goes up around 20th but this year our plans mean the kids wont be home bewteen tomorrow and the 22nd December! When we get back from the family visits on 22nd december I will be maxed out and it suddently dawned on me on Friday night that if the tree did not go up this weekend then it probably would not go up at all!

The kids are happy although I am wondering how the hell I am going to put up with the monstrosity in the corner of my livingroom for another 5 weeks!

I'm thinking the strike on Wed could provide the perfect opportunity to do it...if not it'll be the following Wed, or maybe next Sun afternoon!
