After being a scrooge for years (no family so usually a rubbish time of year for me) I am embracing Christmas this year as its DS's first.

I have decided to put the decorations up on the 1st December and take them down New Year's Eve to decorate the house ready for DS's birthday on New Year's Day.

The 1st December seems very early still, though!

TheElvesSawBatgirlKissingSanta · 14/11/2011 19:26

Ds's birthday is on the 7th, so we put them up the sunday after that. Like to try and keep things seperate.

NotFromConcentrate · 14/11/2011 19:28

We'll put the decorations up on the 1st, with the tree following on the 10th.

TrinityRhino · 14/11/2011 19:30

when I was a kid we always put them up the weekend after the 15th as that was my dads birthday

infact I still do it
but it occurred to me this week that I could put them up any time I like and was thinking of the 12th

I almost feel like I'm being naughty lol Grin

headfairy · 14/11/2011 19:32

probably the weekend of the 18th December. Maybe put some decorations up during the week beforehand

EdithWeston · 14/11/2011 19:32

After a family birthday in mid-December, and keep them up until Twelfth Night.

TrinityRhino · 14/11/2011 19:33

hmmm 12th is a monday so maybe have to be 10th Grin

Sparklingbrook · 14/11/2011 19:33

Up Christmas Eve and down on Boxing Day. In my dreams.

2gorgeousboys · 14/11/2011 19:35

Ours go up the first weekend in December (although last year they sneaked in on 27th November as DS1 was so disappointed as his dancing competition was cancelled due to snow).

It needs to be a weekend as it takes at least a day to get sorted out.

RomanKindle · 14/11/2011 19:36

First weekend in December.

WhatWouldLeoDo · 14/11/2011 19:43

First weekend in Dec here. We go and get a tree on the Sat morning then decorate it in the evening or the Sunday morning. Can't wait!

Sparklingbrook · 14/11/2011 19:48

Wish I could get excited like you all are. We haven't really got a good spot to put the tree so we have to do furniture rearranging and kind of wedge it in. It's in the way all Christmas and it just makes me cross. That's why I want to take it down as soon as it's up. Sad

posey · 14/11/2011 20:08

TrinityRhino snap! My dad's birthday also Dec 15th and we always put decorations up weekend after his birthday (my parents still do).
We tend to do ours about a fortnight before Christmas nowadays, on a weekend, with Christmas CD on and sherry to drink Grin

ENormaSnob · 14/11/2011 20:17

4th dec this year.

Having a party at home the 3rd or would have been up on the 2nd (my birthday)

quietlyafraid · 14/11/2011 21:04

first weekend in dec is christmas tree day in my house.

this is the result of my parents never getting round to it until christmas eve and then getting a match stick.

i am the christmas fairy.

girlywhirly · 15/11/2011 09:33

Probably around the 12th Dec, although our house is such that no-one can see the tree etc, lounge is at the back. So may decorate the kitchen window earlier for the benefit of the primary school DC going past twice a day, and put up the wreath by the door.

PlasticFlamingo · 15/11/2011 09:42

This year November 30th, normally the nearest Saturday to the 1st December.
We do the Asian end of year house cleaning, so, everything normally comes down on the 26th Dec.

vixsatis · 15/11/2011 09:47

Weekend immediately before Christmas

Lisatheonewhoeatsdrytoast · 15/11/2011 10:45

First week of december, so probably the 3rd or so Grin i take them down on the 30th for DS's birthday on the 31st Dec Grin

twolittlemonkeys · 15/11/2011 10:46

First weekend in Dec usually. The only hard and fast rule in our house is that we can't do it before DH's birthday on 29th November Grin

BigBlueBear · 15/11/2011 10:51

First weekend on December for me, though the DDs advent calendars are already on the mantelpiece and I've ordered stuff for the advent garlands so they will be ready to go too.

I can't wait! I think I get used to stuff up from DD1's birthday in October and Diwali, which is usually soon after, so I want to continue with the celebrations.

Everything comes down early in January though, as DH and I have birthdays then. And then I love having my tidy front room back!

ours will go up sometime after the 8th december. with both DC birthdays at the beginning of the month we like to keep it seperate. This year alot depends on when DH is around to get the decorations out of the loft. we usually take them down on new years day

ThisIsExtremelyVeryNotGood · 15/11/2011 13:27

The first weekend in December, although this year I'll probably spread it out over a few days, the 1st to the 4th ish. They come down on NYD as it's DS1's birthday just after that and I like Christmas to be finished so we can focus on his birthday.
