Wrapping presents in brown paper

I have ended up with a lot of brown wrapping paper and I was thinking about using this to wrap christmas presents this year. I still want them to look pretty, though, so was thinking of adding some ribbons or other decorations? I want it to look sort of shabby chic iyswim.

Has anyone done this before, and if so, what looked good? All ribbons the same colour, or different colours? I live in a pine forest, so lots of pine cones, could I attach these somehow? If anyone can guide me towards a tutorial I will be grateful.

Also, where's cheap to get ribbons from? I've seen some beautiful ribbons online but they are £££.

I do this most years. Just tie with ribbon and usually add a little candy cane on the ribbon bow. You can mini ones from Sainsburys for £1 a box.

A BIT like this, but in Christmas colours and with more tied in the centre

I always use brown paper with bright ribbons and try to make each ribbon different. I collect things throughout the year and have even used the cords from expensive shopping bags as ties for parcels.

Charity shops are great and I often buy cheap bead necklaces and bracelets and take them apart and thread the beads onto ribbons.

Brown paper and ordinary parcel string. Then stick gold stars on the parcels. Looks lovely.

I do this every year.

This year I have white/red/gold/green ribbon from costco and candy canes.

Need some plain red foil tags to match.

The kids stuff will be wrapped in coloured paper.

I also do it! For all the adults - my daughter gets fun coloured paper (this year is the Hungry Caterpillar one). I used actual string last year which looked rather retro. Going to have a look at rafia and/or metallic ribons to match my decorations.

I love how brown paper-wrapped presents look under the tree.
