Work secret santa-gift ideas under 5 pounds?

Its secret santa time again-I'm trying to enter into the spirit of things as I am new, but I'm struggling with the price limit!

So-under a fiver (proof required)
Not rude
Could be for anyone (is that what you call a double secret santa?) My colleagues are aged between 21 and about 55-mostly female, but there are a couple of men as well.

Things that have already been done-5 pounds worth of scratchcards, edible thong (hence the non-rude/non sexual rule this year), chocolates, vouchers, cheapish bottles of wine, mugs, choc fondue set-scandalously as was 90p over the limit...

I'm thinking of baking something-possibly Christmas biscuits, a cake-I would like the gift to be a success-does anyone have any better ideas?

Thanks!!

How about something like this Tabletop Origami

Lakeland have quite a few things for under a fiver, in fact I think I might go there for our Secret Santa!

Jcee · 13/11/2011 13:26

How about doing something like this?

hocuspontas · 13/11/2011 13:41

Oooh like that muffin idea.

Baking something is a nice idea - you could buy a nice mug, fill with handmade fudge or biscuits and wrap nicely in cellophane.

Cheap mug with a Baileys miniature and a couple of satchets of hot choc.

Moleskin or Muji notebooks - and a pretty pen from Paperchase.

Aveda handcream mini = about 5.50 but is really lovely.

Jar of Starbucks syrup and one of their big chocolate coins.

'Posh' olive oil or balsamic vinegar.

Nice chutney plus some good oatcake biscuits.

Huge jar of pickled onions! :)

I would be v happy with any of the above. :)

Alicious · 13/11/2011 22:01

Thank you all for your lovely ideas-I personally would propose to anyone who bought me a huge jar of pickled onions!!

I love the muffin idea-but knowing my workmates and the fact that making them would involve 'work' I think I might do it for my SIL instead!

I'll have a look at Lakeland tonight-doing the graveyard shift at work...

If not then maybe a nice basket of home made cakes/tin of fudge will do the trick!

Wonder what I'm going to get...

Very good thread - there must be loads of people with the same problem. Have been reading with interest!

BlueRedGreen · 13/11/2011 22:19

Lots of good books are under a fiver, how about a cook book or gardening book? If you look on Amazon or in The Works you could get something good.

Or, a 'night in kit', with a magazine, chocolate and teabags or whatever snack you think might go down well with your colleagues (posh crisps? packet of biscuits? - depends which magazine you choose as to how much you have left!).

scaevola · 13/11/2011 22:22

Upmarket tea or coffee, or chocolate covered coffee beans (perhaps with a mug)?

Selection of retro sweeties?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/11/2011 22:25

WH Smith had lots of cookery books on two for a tenner today. You could 'up' it slightly to buy a cook book and something to go with it -

eg: Indian cook book and jar of lime pickle
Italian cookbook and some olives
Japanese cookbook and some Miso
etc etc.

goodasgold · 13/11/2011 22:33

I always used to buy extra 'gifts' for some colleagues and slip them into the sack.

Alicious · 13/11/2011 22:47

Ooh-Retro sweets-everyone loves them don't they?! I'm drooling over the thought of Fruit Salads, Refreshers, Flying saucers...MMMMMMM....

Also been checking out the idea of making Cake Pops in a festive styley-excited now!!

Thanks for your responses!
