Watches and Rings...

Right ladies, I need some Christmas shopping advice. My BF and I have only officially been in a relationship a week, but have been dating for around 3 months, known each other about 5 months. Lovely guy, a great friend as well as a very caring boyfriend and I care about him a lot.

For background, I'm very young with no DC's of my own and have only had one previous relationship that was around April time and so no gift buying happened. Adding this so I have a valid reason for asking stupid questions :)

Anyway, my birthday is in early December and he's hinted that he might buy me an item of jewellery. Today he asked my ring size so it's looking likely that's what it'll be. So I want to know, when you're getting a ring size for non-engagement/wedding type rings, which finger do you measure?

I'd like to get him a nice watch as a Christmas gift, he's been hinting that he'd like to buy himself one and pointing out ones he likes, and I think it'd be a nice thing to give him.

I need recommendations, I've got around £25 to £30 to spend, but need ideas re: brand etc. He likes all kinds of watch really but I'd like to get him quite a smart one ideally. If I could get it engraved with his name that would be even better.

I don't know much about watches so I can't help you there other than to suggest maybe an outlet shopping centre (was at one today and there was a jewellers there and DP did mention that it seemed quite cheap compared to what he paid for his watch). Most jewellers offer an engraving service. For the ring you can wear it on any finger you like, personally I like to wear rings only on my ring fingers (the one you wear your wedding ring on and the same finger on the right), so I would measure for that finger, but you can wear it on your middle finger etc if you prefer. Not much help admittedly!

I don't know any particularly good places to shop for watches, but to help you get your eye in, here's the Argos page at about your price range.

Thank you both :) Edith, I did look at Argos but I don't know if it's the done thing really, but I've seen some nice ones there. I've also seen a couple of nice ones in H Samuel :)
