We have got ds a digital camera, he's 8 just before Xmas. He has asked for more Lego but enough of it already IMO. Dp getting him an electronics lab kit too, I'm considering a hexbug set and he'll get other bits too. If your ds likes construction, meccano might suit? I just got a great catalogue with loads of stuff he would like - Bright minds.

Nintendo 3 DS? A musical instrument? Skateboard? Scooter?

Skylanders: spyros adventure pack for Wii, brought my DS (8) this and he loves it!

GrownUpSparkler · 08/11/2011 22:48

I have bought 9yo SS some fun toy type stuff as I feel he gets too much in the way of electronics and not enough playing stuff.

So some meccano remote control cars, that he and his dad can build together, because he likes cars and I think it'll be nice for him.

Also some science type stuff because he has expressed an interest. There are little packs that you can get, or a big altogether one, plus books and the like.

He also quite likes lego, which my DS is getting a few bits and pieces of, so I am looking for something that SS might like so they can play together.

After that I'll probably get him a DS game and some bits and pieces. It's quite hard buying for them when you are still getting used to them and how different it is from infant and preschoolers.

My ds (7) has just got Skylanders and he and his dad love it.

He also loves the the Playmobil Top Agents range which is aimed at age 7 and above.

Sorry to hijack - what digital camera are you thinking of getting accessorizequeen? I'm thinking of one too for my just turned 8yr old and there is too much choice!

Thekingfisher · 09/11/2011 09:02

Sorry not to reply sooner, my dogs not well so been a bit distracted with her.
Good ideas here, although the ds he has went out of favour with the iPod arrival will prob get a wii game but like someone said above would prefer some non screen type stuff.

Hexbugs are a good idea and may try and look at some more sporty stuff.
He,s using an old digital camera of mine at mo so that's not critical...maybe a helmet camera? What do you think. He seems to be in a tricky gap between child and young teen and don,t want him to grow up too quickly !
Thanks all

My DS (8) wants:

  • a Wii
  • a new bike with gears
  • soem snazzy football trainers

Last year he got the Maxi Micro Scooter (joystick version) and uses it a lot.

Scalextric?

accessorizequeen · 09/11/2011 10:21

Myron, don't know the model but can check when I'm at home, dp got a Vivitar one for £30. He said the plastic case would be more durable for ds and that the next lot of cameras were about £70 bracket which we didn't want to pay. Hth.
Am vv tempted to get Moon in my room now, it sounds fab!

Carrotsandcelery · 09/11/2011 10:30

Moon in my room does sound great. Has anyone got one already? I would recommend Maxi scooters if they don't already have a scooter and the budget allows. Both my dcs have them and they go on and on for years so are worth the cash.

We got the Vtech Kidzoom cameras last year, when the DCs were 4,6, and 8, and they've been a big hit. They're nigh on indestructible, they can all work them with no problems, and the pictures and videos come out really well. They have little games on there too, and keep them amused really well. I think there's a "new improved" one out this year too.
