How many Christmas cards do you send, really?

I think we send something like 20-30, plus DD's classmates if they count, and for most of my life I haven't sent any at all Blush

On QI last night they claimed that 150 is average, which surely means someone's got to be sending 270 just to balance me out Hmm

Really? Is that really a normal number of cards to send? Seems completely insane to me.

Between 90 and 100. Its madness, I know. My Christmas card list seems to get longer each year - a combination of very large extended families who lives a long way away, gathering more friends from different walks of life etc. I have already written them - couldn't leave them until December as I'd never have time to write them and do everything else!

tryingtofigureitout · 07/11/2011 12:00

usually about 30 or 40 but dont want to send any this year, didnt last year but hubby made me, saying im getting worse and am going to end up all alone with cats - haha.

think this year i will just send to nearest and dearest and not tell him.

ThePupfler · 07/11/2011 15:58

Thank you lovely MNers, this thread has just convinced it would be okay to reduce level of christmas cards down to elderly relatives etc

LaPruneDeMaTante · 07/11/2011 16:01

About 50. I did 0 for the baby/toddler years (and a bit beyond...).

thousandDenier · 07/11/2011 16:05

One to the PIL. And it'll be one that DS has made at nursery out of pasta and cotton wool

I hope those of you who send them are all sending these Grin

Eglu · 07/11/2011 16:23

I've cut back over the years on who I send to. The DC will do cards to their friends at nursery and school though, and since we've just moved from a tiny school to a huge one that will be about 60 between them.

MrsJohnDeere · 07/11/2011 16:34

About 5 to a handful of elderly relatives who take great offence if I don't and don't/won't use the Internet.

banana87 · 07/11/2011 16:37

Around 50. This year I am buying a design from Etsy and having it printed by Snapfish or somewhere similar. Some of the designs are really nice (and cheap!).

KatieScarlett2833 · 07/11/2011 16:38

None

Give cost of cards I would have sent to charity.

picnicbasketcase · 07/11/2011 16:41

None

DS writes them out for everyone in his class because everyone else does it, but I don't send/give any to anyone. Pointless really. I'd rather text or ring people and say it.

reastie · 07/11/2011 16:56

We maybe get 30 - 40 ish, I always think I have a meesly pile as my mum usually gets at least double if not triple but then she is popular and I am not

LillianGish · 07/11/2011 16:58

I only send them to people I want to send a little note to (definitely not a round robin!) and/or possibly a photo of the kids. Can't see the point of the ones that just say Happy Christmas, love LillianGish. I think it's nice to send them to people you won't see - we have friends scattered all over the world, pointless sending them to people you see all the time and so presumably can say Happy Christmas in person. So in answer to the OP probably about 40 between us.

Not including the kids sending theirs to mates, about 150 - extended family, old friends from childhood/school/uni/training college, old friends from previous workplaces, and lots to current colleagues and folk from church. We probably receive about 250+, more if we include the ones from the kids' friends.

TeaOneSugar · 08/11/2011 22:20

Fewer every year, i review my list against the cards we receive and drop people off that don't bother to send us one - probably not the spirit of Christmas but it saves on stamps and writing piles of cards is a big pain.

budgieshell · 08/11/2011 22:31

The same number that I recieve. When a card arrives I right one to return. Those people who send me one in the last post don't recieve one. DD's do loads. DH does non.

teacoupons · 08/11/2011 22:48

I don't send 150 cards simply because I don't know enough people.

This year we will send around 30 but if I have to include the college evening class students, more like 60.

flakemum · 12/11/2011 21:18

I write mine as I get them now. Got fed up doing all at once. Means you receive less though but dont mind that. Soon found out who was closest friends by doing it that way too. Not in Christmas spirit though I know Blush
