Christmas Cake

I've bravely made my first ever Christmas cake a few weeks ago and have feeding it regularly. I'm starting to consider the decorating side of it but am at a complete lose as to what to do and how to go about it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

hi, well done, not done mine yet, just about too tho. We make 3 or 4 every year and even my youngest dd helps now. Keep feeding and I marzipan and ice cakes about 10- 7 days before, you can buy pre rolled, much easier or do it yourself, using apricot jam to 'glue 'it to the cake then to the marzipan & icing, you need to warm it first(careful as it gets hot fast) then use a pastry brush to apply all over, smooth marzipan/icing to cake and then trim, obviously at this point cake need to be on a board. You can buy a smoother online

they are very handy and then as its your first cake, keep decorations simple, we did xmas trees and used cookie cutters, we dyed left over icing green with food dye(use food gloves) and then did them in circular pattern around cake, with glitter edible balls and they were fab. Last year I did red shooting stars with silver trails. good luck!
