Questions about Mini Micro Scooter - anyone's DC have one?

DD has asked for a scooter for Christmas - planning to get her a mini micro scooter (like this

Only problem is, we are going abroad for Christmas, (by plane) and will need to either take it with us, or have her wait until we get home for her present.

Obviously I want her to be able to open it on Christmas day and use it while we are away, as it will probably be a bit disappointing for a 4 year old to have to wait!

Presumably when you first buy them they are flat-packed - how easy would it be to dismantle it again so we can pack it in hold luggage when we fly home? And how heavy is it? - website doesn't seem to say. We are flying Easyjet so have to pay for hold baggage, but presumably wouldn't be allowed to put it in cabin baggage...

Just measured DS and he is 102cm now, shows what i know Grin and igot him to stand on his scooter and he has ages and ages time on it yet! He is almost 4 and 2 months

Like everyone is saying it really does depend on the height and weight of the child rather than their age. The scooter height is 66.5cm, weight limit 20kg. Measure them at hands held straight in front of them and you'll see if it is ok height wise. Some of the 4 year olds mentioned on this thread are the same weight as an average 2 year old so it's difficult to generalise.

Jacksterbear · 03/11/2011 11:27

My 4.9 yo is 112-ish cm and about 20/21 kgs and is fine on his mini.

tummytickler · 03/11/2011 12:16

I have no idea about height or weight Blush he is the youngest of 4 Grin
He seems to be smaller than average when looking at his classmates though!
Will have to measure him later! And we don't own scales so will have to take him to my neighbours!

bunnyspoiler · 03/11/2011 12:29

tummytickler just go on height of hand placement rather than weight. i've broken the weight limit several times over by having a go on DD's scooter many a time Grin

Right, I am definitely going for the mini Grin. Thanks for everyone's advice and help.

you know i've just come off the phone from my tall friend, we live 300 miles apart so don't see each other very often. Her twin girls are 4 months younger than my DS and I asked her of they were tall, she said no not really - they are almost 3 years 10 months and are 125cm tall Grin compared to my midget oof 102 that is tall - just shows how we all think differently too - she didn't think they were tall. Yet when I drop DS off at nursery he is average to tallest!!! They must all be midgets here Grin

dd2 age 4 is 100cm and 34lb - showing at 50th percentile - i think 50th percentile is pretty average for any age and imagine those above are heavier or taller for their age - like dd6 who is 60th percentile - but still weighs less than 20kg! I def think the mini is fine for an average sized 4yr old - most of dd age 6 mates in year 1 still go to school on their mini! Although the best thing for anyone is suppose is to try someone elses!

OP, we've twice taken TWO mini micro scooters on a plane...! They assemble really easily and then there's a wee button to press to pop it apart into 2 pieces no bother.

A truly FAB gift.

Dd1 got for her 3rd b'day and could do it no bother. Dd2 was 15 months at the time and mastered it that same day!!! We managed to hold off until her 2nd b'day before getting her one too! They're now 5 and 3 and have been the best thing we've bought.

JujyFruits · 04/11/2011 00:30

I'm surprised at those saying their 3 yo has grown out of the mini.

I can ride on my DDs mini!

Ok I do it one handed and I'm hunched over.

And I know I shouldn't because I'm obviously a lot heavier than weight limit.

But it's such fun it's hard not too! And I'm 5ft 3. If anything just goes to show how strong and sturdy they are anyway (it's not broken yet).

Does anyone know the weight limit on the maxi one? Cos I'd seriously consider getting one for myself if I could afford it!

tassisssss · 04/11/2011 09:03

JF, my tall 5 year old is fine on her mini micro. However if I was buying new for a kid over 4 I'd maybe buy maxi but really, really can't bring myself to spend that amount of money.
