Pool the money for the pair of them and buy tickets or vouchers for something. Theatre vouchers, concert, Orient Express, meal at a fancy restaurant, hotel night, spa.

We usually do that for my PILs as they usually just buy what they want for themselves.

It also gives them something to a) look forward to, b) talk about and c) boast about to their friends afterwards. Thus making you a good DIL.

MIL is getting some locally made handmade soap, FIL a book and they will be getting a towel from DS's school and will probably do a photo of DC's for them.
