What have your 10yo DD's asked for this year?

And what are you actually buying them?! Mine has asked for Lego, Playmobil, a pair of High heels(!) for dressing up in, and books. I'm really lacking inspiration re her "big" present. Any ideas?

OP posts:
Fennel · 23/10/2011 15:46

My 10yo hasn't asked for anything yet but I quizzed her today and she mostly wants "craft kits, origami, cinder toffee". 11yo dd would like a terrapin or two, and "surprises".

Anyone would think we live off grid in a yurt or something. Actually we do have electricity etc in our house, but dds appear to live in a 1950s bubble. They are pleasingly cheap to satisfy still though, long may it last.

WitchesAreComing · 23/10/2011 20:58

Oh Fennel, they sound so sweet Smile

I was going to get DD a Sun Jar but was confused and put off by reviews. Any one know if they are any good?

Fennel · 23/10/2011 21:05

I have a sun jar (adding to our pre-electicity home impression here). I like it, it's worked for over 3 years. The dds pinch it to have in their bedrooms so I guess they like it too.

WitchesAreComing · 23/10/2011 21:06

Which type did you get if you don't mind me asking please?

WitchesAreComing · 23/10/2011 21:06

Grin at pre-electricity home too!

ElaineReese · 23/10/2011 21:07

iPod touch
New phone
Superdry t-shirt.

Will prob do the first and third!

Fennel · 23/10/2011 21:12

Not sure, sorry, it was a present. It just says Sunjar on the bottom.

WitchesAreComing · 23/10/2011 21:27

Thanks anyway Fennel. I'm not sure about the Yurt now; I have visions of your DD's being like Laura and Mary in Little House in the Big Woods. Delighted with a doll made out of vegetables, one candy cane and a new length of calico for a Sunday dress etc

LittleMissWoodscommaElle · 23/10/2011 21:40

All dd has asked for this year is Harumika.

It was her 10th birthday 2 weeks ago and she asked for money and gift vouchers which she spent on Pineapple clothes (she does dance) green nail polish and her first pair of non Start-Rite fitted party shoes

PlasticFlamingo · 24/10/2011 05:22

My 10 year old DD Just had a basketball and hoop for her birthday. A pair of converse too.

For Christmas she has asked for a tamagochi idl (she won't get this as she already has a tamagochi id), badminton racket (she will get) ,a disney game for the wii (perhaps) and she will get her toe shoes for ballet.

My DD also loves craft kits, so probably some of those too.

twinklytroll · 24/10/2011 06:13

The uglies series by Scott Westerfield.

Wallace · 24/10/2011 06:58

10 year old dd would like Father Christmas to bring her a DesignaBear from Argos. She knows FC doesn't usually bring such big things but has appealled to me him.

From us she wants the rest of the Lemonny Snickett books.

tummytickler · 24/10/2011 07:28

dd is 10 and she wants a new guitar, an ipod, tickets to see Paul McCartney, Michael Morpurgo books.
She will get a new guitar, my old ipod shuffle, Michael Morpurgo books, watch and a few other bits.
I am only getting her a shuffle (my old one at that) because if I buy her a touch or something I worry about what I will get her when she is 15/16/17!
Unfortunately, as much as I would love to, I just cannot afford to get her Paul McCartney tickets, so I will have to hope he tours again soon.

ragged · 24/10/2011 12:30

Hasn't mentioned it, but will probably request cash & blow the lot on 5 quid size Blue Noses (sigh).
Am also very interested in Sun Jars, though, for DS12.

Fennel · 24/10/2011 20:18

It gets even more retro here, dds want a Write-and-paste-in-your-favourite recipes book, perhaps we are little house on the praire after all Hmm.

Just had a 3 hr power cut in our village, now I fancy a gas lamp for Christmas. Sunjar not good when it's rained all day.

Jbck · 24/10/2011 20:51

I'm going to ask Santa for Fennel's DDs 'cos they sound adorable and how 10 yr olds should be. Smile

Smugfearnleyshittingstool · 24/10/2011 21:47

My dd is 10 and is desperate for myriad toys woodland lodge. Dh is actually making a version of it for both dc to share, I hope it's good enough! Other than that she likes sylvanian but has tonnes already so maybe a small set only this year.
She loves felting and craft so I'll get a few bits top up those. She is not as mature as some 10 yr olds though.

We are doing something you want, something you need, something to wear, and something to read...but will probably not stick to it!

She always loves a new jellycat teddy/animal, they last well and are loved. And an accessorise gift card of £15 to spend in the sales.

IMO computers are tools not gifts, maybe that's just me? We don't really buy music so she is not interested in iPods yet thankfully.

Last year she asked for harumika, we got her 2 sets that have barely been touched. I quite liked the idea but she didn't it seems, the go go pets were a waste aswell I think, ds not bothered by them at all, again I like them.

Bohica · 24/10/2011 22:22

Marking place.

Earlybird · 25/10/2011 03:14

What is harumika? Haven't heard of it...should I get googling? wink

Earlybird · 25/10/2011 03:15

or should I say [hwink] ?

tummytickler · 25/10/2011 09:04

Harumika! Dd asked for one of these ages ago and I couldn't remember what it was called! They are little mannequins and you make clothes for them (I think!). quite expensive I think , though.

VivaLeBeaver · 25/10/2011 11:29

Dd asked for and got harumika last year, played with a couple of times and then forgotten.

WitchesAreComing · 25/10/2011 12:53

DD has had a lot of use out of the mannequins and still makes things though the pre-cut favric and trimmings have run out. I'm reluctant to get her any more though as they're a bit overpriced.

I also want Fennel's DD's for Christmas. How sweet is the recipe book request? They might like some of the stuff from the Organised Mum site, Fennel.

WitchesAreComing · 25/10/2011 12:55

Duff link. Bloody real life children distracting me

Fennel · 25/10/2011 13:01

This is the Dodo recipe book i am getting:

www.amazon.co.uk/Dodo-Book-Cooks-Recipes-Extinction/dp/1903001099/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1319543856&sr=8-1

I have also bought a few collections of books from Book people and Amazon, that's all the shopping I've done so far. I'm browsing the craft and art supplies sites. We've got a lot from Buttonbag and Yellow Moon in the past but they need something a bit more complex now. Any ideas for tween craft supplies and kits?

I actually worry a bit about the unworldiness of my dds, especially dd1, she's oblivious to peer group trends. But that's a whole other thread.
