PLEASE list ideas and inspiration here.

I find myself falling back on books, food and booze, CDs (not so much any more, everyone has an iPod), DVDs and tools (ooo-errr, missus)

I would really love some inspired ideas, big and little.

In return I can offer you a little present I made for DH a few years ago. Lots of little whisky miniatures, some shot glasses, some home made score cards. I took all the labels off the whiskeys and he had to taste and guess what they were. Very successful. But I have done that one now :(

DH is getting a pocket digital radio for taking to the gym - he's got an iPod but he likes to listen to sport on the radio. I'm also getting him a nice leather toiletries bag because I'm fed up of the ugly one that sits in the bathroom that he uses now

Books used to be a great buy for him, but he's got a kindle and an amazon gift voucher isn't quite the same.

NorksAreMessy · 06/10/2011 21:17

Leather toiletry bag...great, where from please?

John Lewis! Sorry, I would link but it's a bit faffy on my phone!

Squitch · 06/10/2011 21:42

WhatWouldLeoDo - great minds think alike! I've bought DP a leather wash bag from JL for exactly the same reason. (

This won't be much help to most of you, but I'm getting DH a new nail varnish. Grin

He's had some cufflinks with a Banksy image on and a moustache grooming kit before too.

Cool t-shirts are great too, here's some favourite sites -

www.lastexittonowhere.com/

outofprintclothing.com/shop/t-shirts/mens/

Etsy is a really good site for presents. There's loads of gaming related items and really nice accessories.

Ooh, shouldbe there us nothing to beat a gadget...but only if it is the RIGHT gadget. He wrong gadget gets a 'huh?' and it spends the rest of its life in a drawer in the garage, the right gadget is never left alone.

But HOW do you tell the difference?

NorksAreMessy · 06/10/2011 22:02

firebox is a brilliant place for ideas for mannish presents.

some of the stuff is more expensive there than in other places, so if you do see something, make sure you check if you can get it cheaper elsewhere.

home bargains is fab and cheap for bits and pieces...chilli sauce, bottles of beer, sweets, shampoo, razor etc...

NorksAreMessy · 07/10/2011 14:55

maryz, :o at 'bags of crap' - especially as this is no doubt what they will be called..

we used to do a leftovers meal called 'heap-of-shit'...delicious

i'm giving up after last year. I bought what I thought was the perfect gift for tech freak dh, a magic wand remote control. It is still in the box untouched :(

mandylifeboats · 07/10/2011 18:56

google/amazon for Victorinox, great small pressie type items, penknives, credit-card size essential item sets (scissors, tweezers, nail file etc etc). Great for men and women

pramsgalore · 07/10/2011 22:49

my dp got a little remote control helicoptor last year and loves it, the big kid, he won't let the kids touch it, they are allowed to watch!!! i often put up with it hovering above my head

MrsWifty · 07/10/2011 23:32

I have no idea what I'm getting DH this year, but popular presents in the past have included a ukulele, a bongo (which tbh is mainly now used as a side table) and one of those leather coin pouches. My DM once got him an antique hipflask which DF filled with vairy naive cognac, which also went down well. Best present tho was a weekend in Paris to see the final stage of the Tour de France, but that was when we were in the first flushes of childfree romance!

thereistheball · 08/10/2011 08:09

WhatwouldLeodo - is it an iPod Touch? If so he can download TuneIn radio which gives him access to all online radio stations.

Redbluegreen · 08/10/2011 08:33

Band tickets (get two, for something you like too!) always go down well. Also comedy or sports events.

Magazine subscription, maybe to something he wouldn't normally buy but would like, like Private Eye or Fortean Times?

If he's taken any great photos over the year, get one/some framed - very flattering!

Rather than booking an expensive 'experience', you could make up a day/weekend version youself, maybe something like mountain biking here, book a hostel or hotel depending on budget. Could be a family thing, or could arrange for him to do it with a friend. An old friend and I do a weekend away each year, and couple of years ago we did this, it was fab. And you could get any 'accessories' as extra stocking fillers too.

HippyHippopotamus · 08/10/2011 09:14

marking my place to shamelessly steal ideas later! thanks girls!

Thefoxsbrush · 08/10/2011 09:42

I'm getting my Step-dad some AC/DC crap from eBay - car ticker, coasters, pens ect.... He loves acdc so they'll go down well.

My grandad is getting a canvas of a lovely photo of his favourite spot along the coast that he doesn't get to visit as often as he would like.

My FIL is getting a 'posh lunch' voucher for 2 at a nice restaurant he wants to try.

DH will be getting some hotel chocolat and some sort of foodie gift

WillieWaggledagger · 08/10/2011 17:16

every year I renew a sub for Private Eye for my dad. he loves it
