Wanna return to the good old days of playing board games together as a family....

Any ideas??

Monopoly has been mentioned, not sure that involves alot of skill though.

balderdash :)

Barmcake · 27/09/2011 12:17

my ds loves yahtzee, trivial pursuits and Uno, (not really a board game)

PastGrace · 27/09/2011 17:49

Not technically a board game, but Rapidough is fab. It's like pictionary, in that you take a card and it tells you something like "house" and you then have to sculpt it out of playdough (provided, along with little mats. Or they were when we bought it). Sometimes each team gets a different one, sometimes each team has to sculpt the same thing. It's great - I first played it when I was about 7 with children I had never met before, and we still talk about that day!

piprabbit · 27/09/2011 17:51

Cluedo.

Best game ever and not just because I always win

CDMforever · 27/09/2011 20:14

Yes I do like the idea of Cluedo.

Though, looking on Amazon I noticed that they've slightly changed things....oo-er missus. Don't like change Shock

What about Settlers of Catan? Great game.

Bluebell99 · 27/09/2011 21:36

We really like Fleeced which is a Wallace and Gromit board game, which is based on sheep rustling, it's really great and suitable for all ages.
Creationary is good for all ages too.
We have just got The dragon dens game (bargain brand new in charity shop!)
We also enjoy Pass the Bomb and Pass the pigs!

iloveblue · 28/09/2011 11:47

DH has recently bought Talisman for us.
He had it when he was a boy and has been desperate to buy it for ages.
Its pricey but such a good game - I'm not normally into that kind of thing but its really good fun!
You can also get extra bits to add on to it.

inchoccyheaven · 28/09/2011 12:24

We are looking at getting the logo game and best if british board games for xmas.

RoseC · 28/09/2011 12:33

DP is addicted to Carcassonne, which is a bit more of a 'blokey' game and I love Rummikub, which is good if your DS likes rummy, Scrabble, dominoes or anything similar DP hates it because I always win Grin

sb6699 · 28/09/2011 12:46

Pass the Bomb! is brilliant. DS got it as a gift from a relative last Christmas and we spent the entire evening playing it.

We also enjoy Scrabble and we play Dominoes as well so that my younger children can join in.

ja9 · 28/09/2011 18:08

There are fabulous games in the happy puzzle company. I really rate their stuff...

DilysPrice · 28/09/2011 18:15

Pass the Bomb is good
Settlers of Cataan is excellent, but it's quite serious, you have to think about your strategy
I love Family Business, which is a Mafia based card game, very easy to play.
Give Me The Brain, a zombie fast food restaurant card game from
Cheapass Games, is really funny if you're prepared to put done effort into your zombie impersonations.
And Flux is a truly classic card game.
Risk is good but again serious and time consuming, much less of a fun-for-all-the-family game
And Creationary is good if you like Lego

DilysPrice · 28/09/2011 18:16

....put some effort in...

DilysPrice · 28/09/2011 18:17

Oh and on no account get Monopoly, it can break your family

CDMforever · 28/09/2011 18:38

Had a look at Settlers of Catan, looks very good if somewhat complicated for my brain??!!

Also like the look of Cranium, anyone played this?

OP posts:
Glitterandglue · 28/09/2011 23:42

If he likes creepy stuff, I vote for Atmosfear! Me and my mates played it (the VHS version) when we were about ten and scared the crap out of ourselves. It was brilliant.

Also I always liked/still like Payday.

wfrances · 29/09/2011 12:03

get the logo game only £16 from tescos.

MowlemB · 29/09/2011 21:37

Cranium is fab. I always bring it in for my students to play as their end of term / Christmas treat and they love it. They're 16.

Jayjayjo · 29/10/2011 01:18

cdm bought board game called Starplayer for the summer hols. Kids and DH thought it was brilliant, i'm not into football but won which amazed everyone, needs skill so for over 7's to adult i'd say, you have to buy a team of 11 players, get a manager and then win Cup playing with football dice, got it line for under £30 money well spent.

Jayjayjo · 29/10/2011 01:24

that was meant to be 'online' Blush

Blokus is a very enjoyable game of strategy.

Kill Doctor Lucky was fun.

DS and his friends spent years hours and hours playing Risk. At least that's what they said they were doing.

We love the good old, tried and tested Scrabble here too.

Izzi is fantastic for playing on your own or with others. More of a puzzle than a board game.

Jayjayjo · 30/10/2011 17:31

Hey Millie, Yes Starplayer is extremely suitable for teens and engrossing we found, played it many times, each game is loads of fun and eventful! We got it direct on next day del from www.inspiredgames.co.uk

Have fun!! Smile Jay
