When do you make your cake?

And which recipe? Last 2 years I've made the Nigel Slater one and it was delicious.

I think I did it in mid November, was wondering if October half term would be too early.

Not too early, I make mine in October halfterm :)

Normally I aim for end of Oct but it is normally mid Nov by the time I get round to it but am looking at changing recipe. I tried a BBc one last year it was ok but I just can't find one I really like ......

I try and fail to make mine in October but have made it a week before the big day once and it was fine. A couple of years ago I completely forgot I had made one and found it on xmas eve with no time to ice it. I emptied the cupboards and mixed up a load of spare nuts and dried fruit with some melted sugar and butter and poured it over. It was so good I will never ice another xmas cake again!

I use my mum's recipe but it is very similar to the Delia one.
