Think it's because last Christmas I had a brand new 8 week old baby, was still recovering from pre-eclampsia& was thoroughly shattered. This year even tho DD won't really know what's going on I am looking forward to her crawling (Or maybe walking) through all of the wrapping paper, looking at all of the decs & going to the bounce & rhyme Xmas party at the library. Of course we have her first bday before that! Anyone else excited?

Oh god yes the polar express. Howl. Check out the other thread on xmas PJ's. I won't do xmas at other people's houses

I refuse to take my child and her presents out on Xmas day, I feel like its one day where she should be allowed chocolate for breakfast and to play with her toys all day in her PJ's if she wants to. Not hassled into getting dressed to go to Nanny's in the middle of the excitement. My parents and in laws have had their christmas' watching their kids and now its my turn! Anyone is welcome at mine, the more the merrier, but DD goes no-where!

I love all christmas films. My favourite film ever is scrooge the musical with albert finney so my judgement is impaired Grin

Yes, yes, yes!! DC2 due on November 26th, and it will be our first Christmas at home, so extra-specially special. Making no apologies for getting organised early as I'll need to have all shopping and as much food prepped and in the freezer as possible at least a month in advance.

Going to get started on knitting DC2's stocking asap, then make chutney and jam (for gifts) next month. Get all the cards written in October (leaving a space for DC2's name!) and then plan all the menus in November. I'm going to spread present buying out between now and November (all the adults are getting vouchers this year!) so that I don't have a huge bill in December. Saving a few Christmassy prep treats for December for DD, so that we get to spend some special time together after the baby is here.

Can't wait!!!

pissedrightoff · 18/08/2011 21:51

Can't wait!
Have bought a few pressies already.
The children will only be 2.5 and 8 months but I will be excited enough for all of us.

lizardqueenie - I didn't risk a real tree with mine.
DS was born just before the Millenium so we had the tree because he was only 2 weeks old.
Next year, when he was mobile we bought a 4' fibre optic tree. So if it did get pulled/knocked over there was nothing to break and it wasn't heavy.
We didn't have a tree until 2005 when DD was 3.6 yo mainly because my tree decs are glass and some are now 20+ years old.
We did decorate the banister with those swags and non breakables.
Including the chocolate shapes that my DS could unwrap, empty the chocolate and leave the foil hanging.
Then I overheard him teaching his little sister.
"Look you take it out and eat it.And if you leave the wrapper she doesn't know".

Oh yes she does Grin

lizardqueenie · 19/08/2011 07:59

LOF Grin at your DS! I think me & my brother did something similar when we were small!
Yes I'm thinking she'll be at that age where she might waddle over & pick needles off. Even if we get a non-drop I'm always like a loon with the hoover as the 2 cats always seem to take cover underneath the tree & knock of needles & decs with their massive tails!

Very very excited! DD3 is due a week before Christmas (I've never gone over though!) so I will be spending Christmas day in my PJs being waited on. It will be a nice change!

I think needing to have everything done early is making me more excited, lists are all written, budget planned, will start buying in September. DD1 wants a telescope, DD2 a play kitchen (they are 5 and 2). Only person who is being difficult is DP, he will not give me any ideas!

Am going to have to do a stocking for the newborn though, keep the magic alive for the older ones...but no idea what to put in it!

Wormshuffler · 19/08/2011 08:15

Not excited at all, as I have a baby due early Jan, I may actually start buying and wrapping stuff soon though, but more in a get it out of the way vein than through excitement. I really will need to make the effort as Christmas approaches for the sake of My DC's.

Tinkerisdead · 19/08/2011 08:27

My dd was 4 weeks at her first Xmas and her stocking had baby socks, a bib, rattle teddy. She got a red dress and the fisher price ocean wonders off us as presents. But my god the presents she had at 4 weeks off everyone else was remarkable. Think everyone rushed to get her something in fear she'd be forgotten. It was shameful really.

MrsSawyer · 19/08/2011 14:00

My DS1 will be 5.4 and my (soon to be) DS2 will be 4 months, is it bad that we are going to recycle some of DS1's toys for DS2? cant see the point in buying more stuff when we've got stuff in the loft.

Having said that, im ridiculously excited and will be shopping when DS2 has arrived, i cant wait :-)

MrsSawyer · 19/08/2011 14:01

Oh, and last year we did stockings for the 1st time, got some nice ones from poundland Blush which i adapted and stitched our names on, so am desperately hoping they do the same ones again this year!

sheeplikessleep · 19/08/2011 19:05

msbuggywinkle - last year, we got ds2 toothbrush, sponge, nappy cream, bibs, couple of toys, couple of items of clothes ... really boring, but least ds1 saw that santa had visited ds2 too.

msbuggywinkle · 19/08/2011 19:20

Someone on my antenatal thread suggested baby massage oil too...more good ideas here thank you!

glastocat · 19/08/2011 19:26

I love Xmas, but Ffs! It's only August! You are all quite mad.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 19/08/2011 19:45

Not really. Last year I had pneumonia and Christmas was a complete wash out. Poor DD had a very thin Christmas. So this year I was going to pull out all the stops to make up. Except I'll now be 39 weeks pregnant so still not up to doing much.
