DC are 6 and 3 so need to decide now what we will do as 6y old starting to try and catch us out. On my house FC bought nearly everything - stuff in stockings (unwrapped) left in bedrooms and all presents under tree apart from one present each from Mum and Dad.

Dp says in his house only stocking presents from santa anything bigger / under tree from parents. This doesnt seem right to me, much as i would like the credit.

Now he is saying as a compromise we should give them the biggest/best thing everything else from FC. I am thinking a smaller thing i.e not the main one they each have. What do you do in your house?

Also, do you give something from each sibling to the other or wait til they are old enough to go out and buy it!?

Main present and stocking (unwrapped)from FC. I think it would seem strange for DS to have been asking FC for a particular thing only to be given it by me. I do give a small gift though - he's asked for clothes this year so that was an easy one for me to get.

I don't think people who have separate FC/parent presents give a monkeys about getting the "credit" for the presents, but keeping a separation helps with the magic and getting kids to believe.
I'd find it very odd if my parents gave other people's children presents, but not me.
I find it easier to believe in a doddery old bloke who gives good stocking presents than one who buys all the things on the list no matter how expensive or flashy. One day my children will want the newest technology, and how will FC manage that? I doubt his elves will have heard of DSs and Wiis etc. They are from a different time and place to us.

DC 4 and 7. Have always done Santa gives stocking presents and one large present, rest from us/others.

First time this year I have bought DH a Choc Orange from the DC. He moaned last night when I told him I hadn't bought him any chocolate, and I noticed they were half price when I was out with the DC today....

Mine get the things they wrote in their letters labelled from Santa - so the things they reeeeally wanted though they might not be the 'big' or 'main' things. Everything else is from us.

One main present from us under the tree (DSI, Ipod, Mobile, laptop, camera, wii game (depending on age - mine are 20 & 8) - or such like). All other presents wrapped in different paper in a 'stocking' (which is the size of a black sack) - by the front door as youngest doesn't like the idea of a strange man coming into his room.

Anything from family or friends - is under the tree from who ever sent it.

I love the idea that it is Santa that spoils them.

My 8 yr old thinks that Santa wont come for my eldest because he left home to go Uni - so we have made his 'stocking' together and will pretend it is from FC

Wrap the stocking stuff! Not necessarily all but some at least so it takes longer to get through and is more exciting if nothing else!

I get my ds a gift, often it's the most expensive thing but not always. Everything else that I get is from Santa. Presents from friends and relatives are put under tree as received and are labeled correctly (who they are from) and thank you's sent for those.
Santa brings gifts for me too in this house. Else I'd get nothing much (am a single parent though and of course I am always very good Xmas Grin ).
