Playmobil - should I assemble?

Have bought DS1 the Playmobil Dragon's Castle for Christmas. Do you think I should assemble it in advance?

Normally I would, but we want him to keep all the Playmobil upstairs as DS2 will be crawling soon.

How frustrating is Playmobil to put together?

Although it took hours I did enjoy it!

Hospital/school is the same basic structure. Shite! The thing just fell apart. And the little bits are so fiddly! My dnephews had the zoo. That looked OK.

And we need Belgo. She LOVES Playmobil! I happen to know that St Nicolas bought her dcs the Harry Potter castle!

We had the Pirate Ship one year and it took ALL afternoon. We had the zoo too, it was tricky the first time but didn't take too long. It wasn't easily moveable without taking it apart though.

Petal you did well with the hospital, took us longer and we are "experienced" playmobil assemblers iyswim! DH did the building and I did the furniture. Would have helped if there were separate instruction books. We then got the extension floor which took ages too!

I am very Xmas Envy of Belgo, as she has some lovely sets which are available in Belgium already, but not in the UK!

Petal, I don't think it took us quite so long to assemble the hospital (but it was a joint effort between ds and myself, and you know how experienced we are with Playmobil Xmas Wink). And for future reference, wine would have been better than biscuits (I'm sure you know this already.....)

SnowMuchToBits is truly a playmobil expert - you would do well to follow her advice.

Assembly is a big part of the fun for me and DS, but if you think your child would prefer to get stuck into playing with it straight away then you should assemble.

I am Xmas Envy as my DS is also a lego convert now and I miss playmobil.

Oooh, thank you dearprudence - although I must say I'm only really an expert when it comes to my own ds and Playmobil, and he is almost as addicted as I am a big fan! I can't vouch for other people's children, especially if they are younger and may be less interested in the construction process than with playing with the finished product. Xmas Smile

Hospital done. 5 hours. I'd say an hour of that was looking for teeny bits. Have kept the tiny little bottles of stuff aside. Going to put away until she's a bit bigger as they're bound to get lost as she's only 4 in March.

Massive sigh of relief. Job done.

Good luck to all out there!

Ahhhh, well done! You will get quicker with practice.... Xmas Wink
